Or (still another parable may be cited to depict their condition): heavy rain is falling from the sky, accompanied by pitch darkness, thunder and lightning. When they hear the thunderclap, they thrust their fingers into their ears for fear of death, but Allah is encircling the disbelievers on all sides.

And if you be in doubt whether the Book We have sent down to Our Servant is from Us or not, then produce, at least, one Surah like this. You may call all your associates to assist you and avail yourselves of the help of any one other than Allah. If you are genuine in your doubt, do this.

Translation:

Remember that We made a solemn covenant with the children of Israel to this effect: worship none save Allah: be good to your parents, to your relatives, to the orphans and to the helpless; speak aright with the people: establish the Salat and pay the Zakat. But with the exception of a few, you all slid back from it and are paying no heed to it even now.

Translit: Waith akhathna meethaqa banee israeela la taAAbudoona illa Allaha wabialwalidayni ihsanan wathee alqurba waalyatama waalmasakeeni waqooloo lilnnasi husnan waaqeemoo alssalata waatoo alzzakata thumma tawallaytum illa qaleelan minkum waantum muAAridoona

Were you present at the time when Jacob was on the point of death? He asked his children, "Whom will you worship after me?" They all answered, "We will worship the same One Allah Whom you, your forefathers Abraham. Ismail and Isaac acknowledged as their Allah and to Him we all surrender as Muslims."

O Believers, if you are true worshippers of Allah alone, eat without hesitation of the good and clean things wherewith We have provided you and be grateful to Allah.

Translation:

O Believers, the lawn176 of retribution has been prescribed for you in cases of murder; if a free man commits a murder, the free man shall he punished for it and a slave for a slave : likewise if a woman is guilty of murder the same shall he accountable for it.177 But in case the injured brother178 is willing to show leniency to the murderer, the blood money should he decided in accordance with the common law179 and the murderer should pay it in a genuine way. This is an allowance and mercy from your Lord. Now there shall be a painful torment for anyone who transgresses the limits after this. O men of understanding.

Translit: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo kutiba AAalaykumu alqisasu fee alqatla alhurru bialhurri waalAAabdu bialAAabdi waalontha bialontha faman AAufiya lahu min akheehi shayon faittibaAAun bialmaAAroofi waadaon ilayhi biihsanin thalika takhfeefun min rabbikum warahmatun famani iAAtada baAAda thalika falahu AAathabun aleemun

Translation:

Do not marry mushrik women unless they believe; a slave woman who believes is better than a free woman who does not believe, even though the latter may appear very attractive to you. (Likewise) do not wed your women to mushrik men unless they believe; a slave man who believes is better than a free man who does not, even though he may be very pleasing to you. These mushrik people invite you to the Fire while Allah by His grace invites you to the Garden and His pardon, and He makes His revelations plain to the people so that they should learn a lesson and follow the admonition.

Translit: Wala tankihoo almushrikati hatta yuminna walaamatun muminatun khayrun min mushrikatin walaw aAAjabatkum wala tunkihoo almushrikeena hatta yuminoo walaAAabdun muminun khayrun min mushrikin walaw aAAjabakum olaika yadAAoona ila alnnari waAllahu yadAAoo ila aljannati waalmaghfirati biithnihi wayubayyinu ayatihi lilnnasi laAAallahum yatathakkaroona

Translation:

Have you also reflected upon the matter concerning the chiefs of the Israelites after (the death of) Moses? They said to their Prophet, "Appoint a king for us so that we may fight in the way of Allah." The Prophet asked them, "Might it be that you will not fight, if fighting is prescribed for you?" They replied, "How can it be that we would refuse to fight in the way of Allah when we have been turned out of our homes and separated from our children?" But (in spite of this assurance) when they were enjoined to fight, they all, except a few of them, turned their backs. And Allah knows each and everyone of these transgressors.

Love of lusts for women and children. hoarded Heaps of gold and silver, choicest horses, cattle and corn fields, has been made very tempting for people, but these are mere provisions for the transitory life of this world; the ever-lasting and the best abode, however, is with Allah.

(And when he came as a Messenger to the children of Israel, he said,) "I have come to you with a clear Sign from your Lord: in your very presence, I make the likeness of a bird out of clay and breathe into it and it becomes, by Allahs Command, a bird. I heal those born blind and the lepers and I bring to life the dead by Allahs Command: I inform you of what you eat and what you store up in your houses. Surely there is a great Sign for you in all this, if you have a mind to believe.

After the coming of this knowledge to you, if anyone argues with you about this matter, say, O Muhammad, "Come, let us both gather together and also bring our children and your children, our women and your women, and then pray to Allah and invoke Him to lay the liars under His curse."

Translit: Faman hajjaka feehi min baAAdi ma jaaka mina alAAilmi faqul taAAalaw nadAAu abnaana waabnaakum wanisaana wanisaakum waanfusana waanfusakum thumma nabtahil fanajAAal laAAnata Allahi AAala alkathibeena

Translation:

Say, "O people of the Book! Come to what is common between us and you, that we worship none but Allah; that we associate nothing with Him and that none of us shall make as our Lord any other than Allah." If they reject your invitation, then tell them plainly, "Bear witness that we are Muslims (who worship and surrender to Allah alone)."

Translit: Qul ya ahla alkitabi taAAalaw ila kalimatin sawain baynana wabaynakum alla naAAbuda illa Allaha wala nushrika bihi shayan wala yattakhitha baAAduna baAAdan arbaban min dooni Allahi fain tawallaw faqooloo ishhadoo bianna muslimoona

Translation:

The time is coming when We will cast awe into the hearts of the rejecters of the Truth: this is because they have set up with Allah partners, for whom He has sent no authority. Hell shall be their final abode and wretched indeed is the dwelling place of the workers of iniquity.

Translit: Sanulqee fee quloobi allatheena kafaroo alrruAAba bima ashrakoo biAllahi ma lam yunazzil bihi sultanan wamawahumu alnnaru wabisa mathwa alththalimeena

Translation:

As regards inheritance, Allah enjoins you concerning your children that: The share of the male shall be twice that of the female. In case the heirs be more than two females, their total share shall be two-thirds of the whole and if there be only one daughter, her share shall be half of the whole. If the deceased has children, each of his parents shall get one-sixth of the whole, but if he be childless and his parents alone are his heirs, the mother shall have one-third of the whole. If the deceased has brothers and sisters also, the mother shall be entitled to one-sixth of the whole. The division of all these shares shall take place only after fulfilling the terms of the will and after the payment of the debt (if any). As regards your parents and your children, you do not know who is more beneficial to you. Allah has apportioned these shares and most surely Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise

And all of you should serve God and associate none with Him; and show kindness and affection to your parents, and be kind to near relatives, and to orphans, and to the needy; and be considerate to your neighbors kinsmen and strangers and to the companions at your side and to the wayfarer and to the slaves in your possession. Believe it that Allah does not like such persons as are self~conceited

Translit: WaoAAbudoo Allaha wala tushrikoo bihi shayan wabialwalidayni ihsanan wabithee alqurba waalyatama waalmasakeeni waaljari thee alqurba waaljari aljunubi waalssahibi bialjanbi waibni alssabeeli wama malakat aymanukum inna Allaha la yuhibbu man kana mukhtalan fakhooran

O Believers, do not offer the Prayer while you are intoxicated,65 for Prayer should be offered only when you know what you are saying. Likewise, do not offer the Prayer if you are "unclean" until you take your bath, except when passing on the way: and if you are sick or on a journey or if any one of you has relieved himself or you have touched women and can find no water, then cleanse yourselves with pure dust by rubbing it on your face and hands; no doubt Allah is Lenient and Forgiving.

Translit: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo la taqraboo alssalata waantum sukara hatta taAAlamoo ma taqooloona wala junuban illa AAabiree sabeelin hatta taghtasiloo wain kuntum marda aw AAala safarin aw jaa ahadun minkum mina alghaiti aw lamastumu alnnisaa falam tajidoo maan fatayammamoo saAAeedan tayyiban faimsahoo biwujoohikum waaydeekum inna Allaha kana AAafuwwan ghafooran

Translation:

The Messiah never disdained to be a servant of Allah nor do the angels who are nearest to Him disdain it. Whoever disdains the service of Allah and prides himself on it, (should know that) He will muster all of them before Him.

Translit: Lan yastankifa almaseehu an yakoona AAabdan lillahi wala almalaikatu almuqarraboona waman yastankif AAan AAibadatihi wayastakbir fasayahshuruhum ilayhi jameeAAan

O Believers, when you rise to offer the Salat, you must wash your faces and hands and arms up to the elbows and wipe your heads with wet hands and wash your feet up to the ankles; and if you have become unclean, cleanse yourselves with a full bath; if, however, you are sick or are on a journey, or if any of you has relieved himself or if you have "touched" women and you can find no water, then cleanse yourselves with pure dust: strike your palms on it and wipe your hands and faces with it. Allah does not will to make life hard for you, but He wills to purify you and complete His blessing upon you so that you may show gratitude.

Translit: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo itha qumtum ila alssalati faighsiloo wujoohakum waaydiyakum ila almarafiqi waimsahoo biruoosikum waarjulakum ila alkaAAbayni wain kuntum junuban faittahharoo wain kuntum marda aw AAala safarin aw jaa ahadun minkum mina alghaiti aw lamastumu alnnisaa falam tajidoo maan fatayammamoo saAAeedan tayyiban faimsahoo biwujoohikum waaydeekum minhu ma yureedu Allahu liyajAAala AAalaykum min harajin walakin yureedu liyutahhirakum waliyutimma niAAmatahu AAalaykum laAAallakum tash

Translation:

Then say, "Should I inform you of those, who will have even worse recompense from Allah than the transgressors?" They are those whom Allah has cursed; who have been under His wrath; some of whom were turned into apes and swine; who worshiped taghut; those are the people who are in a far worse plight and who have turned farthest away from the Right Way."

Translit: Qul hal onabbiokum bisharrin min thalika mathoobatan AAinda Allahi man laAAanahu Allahu waghadiba AAalayhi wajaAAala minhumu alqiradata waalkhanazeera waAAabada alttaghooti olaika sharrun makanan waadallu AAan sawai alssabeeli

Translation:

Most certainly they committed blasphemy, who said, "Allah, He is indeed the Messiah, Marys son"; whereas the Messiah had said, "O children of Israel, `worship Allah alone, Who is my Lord and your Lord as well" Whoever joins a partner with Allah, Allah shall forbid him the Garden, and Hell shall be his abode: and such workers of iniquity shall have no helpers.

Translit: Laqad kafara allatheena qaloo inna Allaha huwa almaseehu ibnu maryama waqala almaseehu ya banee israeela oAAbudoo Allaha rabbee warabbakum innahu man yushrik biAllahi faqad harrama Allahu AAalayhi aljannata wamawahu alnnaru wama lilththalimeena min ansarin

Say to them, "Do you worship instead of Allah that which has no power to harm nor benefit you? In fact, it is Allah alone Who hears everyone and knows everything."

Translation:

O Believers, do not kill game while you are in the state of ihram. And, whoever of you kills an animal intentionally, he small have to make an offering of a head of cattle equivalent to it, which will be decided by two just men from among you. This offering shall have to be sent to the Ka`bah or, failing this, he shall have to feed indigent people by way of expiation or compensate for it by equivalent fasting, so that he may taste the evil consequence of what he did. Allah has forgiven what has gone before, but if anyone repeats the same, Allah will inflict retribution on him: Allah is All-Mighty and All-Powerful to inflict retribution.

Translit: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo la taqtuloo alssayda waantum hurumun waman qatalahu minkum mutaAAammidan fajazaon mithlu ma qatala mina alnnaAAami yahkumu bihi thawa AAadlin minkum hadyan baligha alkaAAbati aw kaffaratun taAAamu masakeena aw AAadlu thalika siyaman liyathooqa wabala amrihi AAafa Allahu AAamma salafa waman AAada fayantaqimu Allahu minhu waAllahu AAazeezun thoo intiqamin

Translation:

Allah has made the sacred House of the Kabah a means of stabilizing the (community) life of the people ; the sacred month and the animal offerings and the animals which are collared as a mark of dedication (have also been made conducive to the same object) so that you may know that Allah is fully aware of all that is in the heavens and the earth and that He has perfect knowledge of everything.

Translit: JaAAala Allahu alkaAAbata albayta alharama qiyaman lilnnasi waalshshahra alharama waalhadya waalqalaida thalika litaAAlamoo anna Allaha yaAAlamu ma fee alssamawati wama fee alardi waanna Allaha bikulli shayin AAaleemun

Just imagine the occasion, when Allah will say "O Jesus, son of Mary, recall to mind My favor I bestowed upon you and upon your mother: I strengthened you with the Holy Spirit; you talked to the people even in the cradle as you talked when you were grown up; I taught you the Book and the Wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel: by My leave you made from clay the likeness of a bird, and breathed into it, and by My leave it became a living bird; by My leave you healed the born-blind and the lepers; by My leave you brought forth the dead. Also remember that I protected you from the Israelites, when you came to them with clear signs, and the disbelievers among them said, `These signs are nothing but obvious sorcery"

Translit: Ith qala Allahu ya AAeesa ibna maryama othkur niAAmatee AAalayka waAAala walidatika ith ayyadtuka biroohi alqudusi tukallimu alnnasa fee almahdi wakahlan waith AAallamtuka alkitaba waalhikmata waalttawrata waalinjeela waith takhluqu mina altteeni kahayati alttayri biithnee fatanfukhu feeha fatakoonu tayran biithnee watubrio alakmaha waalabrasa biithnee waith tukhriju almawta biithnee waith kafaftu banee israeela AAanka ith jitahum bialbayyinati faqala allatheena kafaroo minhum in hatha illa sihr

Translation:

I never told them anything other than what You bade me. I said, `Worship Allah, Who is my Lord as well as your Lord. I was a witness to their conduct as long as I remained among them but when You recalled me, You watched over them; for You keep watch aver everything.

Translit: Ma qultu lahum illa ma amartanee bihi ani oAAbudoo Allaha rabbee warabbakum wakuntu AAalayhim shaheedan ma dumtu feehim falamma tawaffaytanee kunta anta alrraqeeba AAalayhim waanta AAala kulli shayin shaheedun

O Muhammad, ask them, "Have you ever considered this: If Allah were to take away your hearing and your sight and set a seal upon your hearts, is there a deity other than Allah to restore them to you?" Behold! how We present Our Signs before them over and over again, and how they turn away from them in disdain.

Translit: Qul araaytum in akhatha Allahu samAAakum waabsarakum wakhatama AAala quloobikum man ilahun ghayru Allahi yateekum bihi onthur kayfa nusarrifu alayati thumma hum yasdifoona

O Muhammad, say, "I have been forbidden to worship those, whom you invoke beside Allah. " Say, "I will not follow your wishes for if I did that I should have gone astray, and would not be of the right guided. "

Translit: Qul innee nuheetu an aAAbuda allatheena tadAAoona min dooni Allahi qul la attabiAAu ahwaakum qad dalaltu ithan wama ana mina almuhtadeena

Translation:

Those people formed quite a wrong estimate of Allah, when they said, "Allah has not sent down anything to any man." Ask them: "Then who sent down the Book, which Moses brought: which was Light and Guidance for mankind: which you have divided into fragments, a part of which you show to the people and most of it you hide from them: by which you were given that knowledge which neither you nor your forefathers possessed?" Just say, "Allah", and then leave them alone to play with their useless arguments.

Translit: Wama qadaroo Allaha haqqa qadrihi ith qaloo ma anzala Allahu AAala basharin min shayin qul man anzala alkitaba allathee jaa bihi moosa nooran wahudan lilnnasi tajAAaloonahu qarateesa tubdoonaha watukhfoona katheeran waAAullimtum ma lam taAAlamoo antum wala abaokum quli Allahu thumma tharhum fee khawdihim yalAAaboona

Translation:

This then is, Allah, your Lord; there is no deity but He is the Creator of everything : so worship Him alone, for He is the Guardian of all things,

Translit: Thalikumu Allahu rabbukum la ilaha illa huwa khaliqu kulli shayin faoAAbudoohu wahuwa AAala kulli shayin wakeelun

And We are turning away their hearts and eyes from the Truth because of that attitude of theirs which prompted them to disbelieve in the first instance, so We leave them to wander about in their rebellion.

Translit: Wanuqallibu afidatahum waabsarahum kama lam yuminoo bihi awwala marratin wanatharuhum fee tughyanihim yaAAmahoona

We sent Noah to his people;47 he said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than He.48 I fear lest the chastisement befall you on a dreadful day."

And to `Ad We sent their brother Hud: he said ,"O my people, worship Allah: you have no deity other than He. Will you not, then, refrain from wrong ways?"

They replied, "Have you come to us (with the demand) that we should worship Allah alone and discard those whom our forefathers have been worshiping? Well, bring on us the scourge with which you have been threatening us, if you are truthful."

To this, he replied, "You have already incurred the curse of Allah and His wrath. Do you dispute with me about mere names which you and your forefathers have invented, and for which Allah has sent down no authority? Well, you may wait and I, too, will wait with you."

And to Thamud, We sent their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship Allah for you have no other deity save Him. A clear proof has come to you from your Lord: here is Allahs she-camel, a sign for you, so let her graze at will in Allahs land; do not touch her with any evil intention, lest a woeful scourge from your Lord seize you.

Translit: Waila thamooda akhahum salihan qala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu qad jaatkum bayyinatun min rabbikum hathihi naqatu Allahi lakum ayatan fatharooha takul fee ardi Allahi wala tamassooha bisooin fayakhuthakum AAathabun aleemun

And to Madyan We sen t their brother Shu`aib: he said, " O my people, worship Allah: you have no other deity than He. A clear guidance has come to you from your lord: you should, therefore, give full measure and weight, and do not defraud the people of their goods, nor spread disorder on the earth after it has been set aright: this is better for you, if you are true Believers.

Or, do they feel secure that Our punishment will not smite them all of a sudden during the day while they might be engaged in pastime?

Translit: Awa amina ahlu alqura an yatiyahum basuna duhan wahum yalAAaboona

Thereupon, Moses threw down his staff, and behold, it became a real serpent all of a sudden.

And remember when your Lord was inspiring the angels with this: "I am with you: so keep the Believers steadfast. I am now going to fill the hearts of the disbelievers with awe: so smite their necks and beat every joint of their bodies.

Translit: Ith yoohee rabbuka ila almalaikati annee maAAakum fathabbitoo allatheena amanoo saolqee fee quloobi allatheena kafaroo alrruAAba faidriboo fawqa alaAAnaqi waidriboo minhum kulla bananin

Translation:

And know that, whatever spoils you have got, the fifth of these is for Allah and His Messenger and for the relatives and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarers; if you have believed in Allah and in what We sent down on Our servant on the day of decision, when the two armies met in combat. (then yield this portion willingly) Allah has power over everything.

Translit: WaiAAlamoo annama ghanimtum min shayin faanna lillahi khumusahu walilrrasooli walithee alqurba waalyatama waalmasakeeni waibni alssabeeli in kuntum amantum biAllahi wama anzalna AAala AAabdina yawma alfurqani yawma iltaqa aljamAAani waAllahu AAala kulli shayin qadeerun

this is the recompense for what your hands had prepared beforehand; for Allah does not do injustice to His servants".

O Prophet, tell them plainly, "If your fathers and your sons, and your brothers and your wives, and your near and dear ones and the wealth which you have acquired and the trade you fear may decline and the homes which delight you-if all these things-are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and the struggle in His Way, then wait till Allah passes His judgment on you;22 for Allah does not guide the wicked people"

Translit: Qul in kana abaokum waabnaokum waikhwanukum waazwajukum waAAasheeratukum waamwalun iqtaraftumooha watijaratun takhshawna kasadaha wamasakinu tardawnaha ahabba ilaykum mina Allahi warasoolihi wajihadin fee sabeelihi fatarabbasoo hatta yatiya Allahu biamrihi waAllahu la yahdee alqawma alfasiqeena

Translation:

They have made their scholars and monks as their Lords beside Allah,31 and likewise the Messiah, the son of Mary, although they were enjoined not to worship any other than the One Deity, besides Whom there is none worthy of worship. He is absolutely pure and free from what they associate with Him.

Translit: Ittakhathoo ahbarahum waruhbanahum arbaban min dooni Allahi waalmaseeha ibna maryama wama omiroo illa liyaAAbudoo ilahan wahidan la ilaha illa huwa subhanahu AAamma yushrikoona

If you question them ("What were you talking about?"), they will promptly answer, "We were merely jesting and making merry.â€ Ask them, "What, then! were you mocking at Allah and His Revelations and His Messenger?

Translation:

Those who turn back to Allah over and over again; those who worship Him, those who sing hymns in His praise, those who move about in the land for His sake, those who bow down and prostrate before Him, those who enjoin virtue and forbid evil and strictly observe the limits prescribed by Allah110 (are the Believers who make such a bargain with Allah;) and O Prophet, give good news to such Believers.

Translit: Alttaiboona alAAabidoona alhamidoona alssaihoona alrrakiAAoona alssajidoona alamiroona bialmaAAroofi waalnnahoona AAani almunkari waalhafithoona lihudoodi Allahi wabashshiri almumineena

The fact is that your Lord is the same Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then sat Himself upon the Throne of His Kingdom, and is directing the affairs of the universe. None can intercede with Him except after His permissions That is Allah, your Lord: so worship Him. Will you not then understand?

Translit: Inna rabbakumu Allahu allathee khalaqa alssamawati waalarda fee sittati ayyamin thumma istawa AAala alAAarshi yudabbiru alamra ma min shafeeAAin illa min baAAdi ithnihi thalikumu Allahu rabbukum faoAAbudoohu afala tathakkaroona

Translation:

These people worship besides Allah those which can neither harm nor benefit them, and say, "These are our intercessors with Allah." O Muhammad, say to them, "Do you presume to inform Allah of that thing which He knows not to be either in the heavens or in the earth ?" He is absolutely free from and exalted above what they associate with Him.

Translit: WayaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi ma la yadurruhum wala yanfaAAuhum wayaqooloona haolai shufaAAaona AAinda Allahi qul atunabbioona Allaha bima la yaAAlamu fee alssamawati wala fee alardi subhanahu wataAAala AAamma yushrikoona

Translation:

On the Day We will muster them together (in Our Court,) We will say to those who committed shirk, "Stay where you are, you and those whom you set as partners with Us." Then We will remove the state of strangeness from among them,36 and the partners they had set up will say, "You did not worship us."

Translit: Wayawma nahshuruhum jameeAAan thumma naqoolu lillatheena ashrakoo makanakum antum washurakaokum fazayyalna baynahum waqala shurakaohum ma kuntum iyyana taAAbudoona

Translation:

Ask them "Who provides for you from the heavens and the earth? Who has power over the faculties of hearing and sight? Who brings forth the living from the dead and the dead from the living? Who directs the system of the universe?" They will surely reply, "Allah". Say "Will you not, then, refrain from (going against the Truth)?"

Translit: Qul man yarzuqukum mina alssamai waalardi amman yamliku alssamAAa waalabsara waman yukhriju alhayya mina almayyiti wayukhriju almayyita mina alhayyi waman yudabbiru alamra fasayaqooloona Allahu faqul afala tattaqoona

Translation:

O Prophet say,106 O mankind! if you are still in doubt concerning my Faith, know that I do not worship those whom you worship beside Allah, but I worship that Allah alone, Who has the power to cause your death. I have been commanded that I should be of the believers.

"You should worship none but Allah-I am indeed a warner and also a bearer of good news from Him to you-

And to `Ad We sent their brother Hud; he said. "O my people! Serve Allah: you have no god other than He: it is nothing but falsehood that you have forged.

Translit: Waila AAadin akhahum hoodan qala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu in antum illa muftaroona

Translation:

And to Thamud We sent their brother Salih. He said "O my people! worship Allah: you have no other Deity than He. It is He Who has created you from the earth and made it a living place for you. So ask His forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance. Most surely my Lord is near at hand and answers prayers.

Translit: Waila thamooda akhahum salihan qala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu huwa anshaakum mina alardi waistaAAmarakum feeha faistaghfiroohu thumma tooboo ilayhi inna rabbee qareebun mujeebun

They replied "O Salih, till now you were such a person among us of whom we had great expectations. What! do you forbid us to worship gods whom our forefathers worshiped? Indeed we have a strong doubt about the way to which you are calling us and this has caused a feeling of distraction in us."

Translit: Qaloo ya salihu qad kunta feena marjuwwan qabla hatha atanhana an naAAbuda ma yaAAbudu abaona wainnana lafee shakkin mimma tadAAoona ilayhi mureebun

And to the people of Madian, We sent their brother Shu`aib. He said. "O my people, serve Allah: you have no deity other than He. Do not give short measure and weight. Though I see you now in a state of prosperity, I fear for you the scourge of a day that will encircle you.

Translit: Waila madyana akhahum shuAAayban qala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu wala tanqusoo almikyala waalmeezana innee arakum bikhayrin wainnee akhafu AAalaykum AAathaba yawmin muheetin

They replied, "O Shu`aib! Does your Salat teach you this96 that we should give up all those deities whom our forefathers worshiped or that we should have no right on our goads to dispense with them as we please?97 Indeed you are the only generous and righteous man (remaining in the land)!"

Translit: Qaloo ya shuAAaybu asalatuka tamuruka an natruka ma yaAAbudu abaona aw an nafAAala fee amwalina ma nashao innaka laanta alhaleemu alrrasheedu

Translation:

So, O Prophet have no doubt concerning the deities they worship for they blindly imitate and worship what their forefathers worshiped before them. And We will give them the full measure of their share without detracting anything from it.

Translit: Fala taku fee miryatin mimma yaAAbudu haolai ma yaAAbudoona illa kama yaAAbudu abaohum min qablu wainna lamuwaffoohum naseebahum ghayra manqoosin

Everything that is hidden in the heavens and the earth is in the power of Allah and everything shall return to Him. So, O Prophet, serve Him and put your trust in Him, for your Lord is not unaware of what you are doing.

Translit: Walillahi ghaybu alssamawati waalardi wailayhi yurjaAAu alamru kulluhu faoAAbudhu watawakkal AAalayhi wama rabbuka bighafilin AAamma taAAmaloona

Send him with us tomorrow that he may freely eat and enjoy sport: we will take good care of him."

Translation:

The gods you worship other than Him are nothing more than mere names you and your forefathers have invented, for Allah has sent down no authority for them. Sovereignty belongs to none but Allah. He has commanded that you shall not worship anyone but Him. This is the right and straight Way, but most people do not know this.

Translit: Ma taAAbudoona min doonihi illa asmaan sammaytumooha antum waabaokum ma anzala Allahu biha min sultanin ini alhukmu illa lillahi amara alla taAAbudoo illa iyyahu thalika alddeenu alqayyimu walakinna akthara alnnasi la yaAAlamoona

Translation:

One day the king said, "I saw in a dream seven fat cows whom seven lean cows were devouring. Likewise I saw seven green ears of corn, and seven withered ones. O my courtiers, tell me the interpretation of my dream, if you understand the meanings of dreams"

Translit: Waqala almaliku innee ara sabAAa baqaratin simanin yakuluhunna sabAAun AAijafun wasabAAa sunbulatin khudrin waokhara yabisatin ya ayyuha almalao aftoonee fee ruyaya in kuntum lilrruya taAAburoona

Joseph answered, "You will cultivate land for seven consecutive years as usual. During this period thrash out of the harvest you reap only that much grain that might suffice for your food and leave the rest in the ears.

Blessed are those who have accepted the Message and done righteous deeds: they have a good end.

O Prophet! some of those people whom We gave the Book before you rejoice in the Book We have sent down to you while there are others among the different sections who reject some of the things contained in this. Tell them plainly "I have been commanded to worship Allah alone and prohibited from setting up a partner with him. Therefore I invite you to Him and myself turn to Him."

Translit: Waallatheena ataynahumu alkitaba yafrahoona bima onzila ilayka wamina alahzabi man yunkiru baAAdahu qul innama omirtu an aAAbuda Allaha wala oshrika bihi ilayhi adAAoo wailayhi maabi

The Messengers said, "Do you have doubt about the existence of Allah. Who is the Creator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you that He may forgive you your sins and give you respite till your appointed term." They answered, "You are no more than human beings like ourselves. You intend to debar us from the worship of the deities whom our forefathers have been worshiping. Well, bring a clear Sign."

Translit: Qalat rusuluhum afee Allahi shakkun fatiri alssamawati waalardi yadAAookum liyaghfira lakum min thunoobikum wayuakhkhirakum ila ajalin musamman qaloo in antum illa basharun mithluna tureedoona an tasuddoona AAamma kana yaAAbudu abaona fatoona bisultanin mubeenin

Recall the time, when Abraham prayed, saying, "Lord! make this city a city of peace, and protect me and my descendants from the worship of idols.

and serve your Lord till that last hour which is sure to come.

The mushriks say, "Had Allah willed, neither we nor our forefathers would have worshiped any other than Allah nor made anything unlawful without His will." Such excuses were put forward also by those who went before them. Have the Messengers any more responsibility than to convey the Message clearly?

Translit: Waqala allatheena ashrakoo law shaa Allahu ma AAabadna min doonihi min shayin nahnu wala abaona wala harramna min doonihi min shayin kathalika faAAala allatheena min qablihim fahal AAala alrrusuli illa albalaghu almubeenu

Translation:

Accordingly, we sent to every community a Messenger, saying, "Worship Allah and keep away from the taghut." After that Allah showed guidance to some of them, while deviation took hold of others. So, roam about in the earth and behold what has been the end of the rejectors of the Messengers.

Translit: Walaqad baAAathna fee kulli ommatin rasoolan ani oAAbudoo Allaha waijtaniboo alttaghoota faminhum man hada Allahu waminhum man haqqat AAalayhi alddalalatu faseeroo fee alardi faonthuroo kayfa kana AAaqibatu almukaththibeena

and, instead of Allah, worship those who do not provide them with anything from the heavens or the earth, nor have any power to do so?

Translit: WayaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi ma la yamliku lahum rizqan mina alssamawati waalardi shayan wala yastateeAAoona

Translation:

Allah cites a similitude (of two men): one of them is a slave, who is owned by another and has no power over anything. There is the other man whom We Ourselves have provided with a fair provision from which he freely spends openly and secretly. (Ask them): "Are these two men equal?"May God be praised! But most people do not understand (this simple thing).

Translit: Daraba Allahu mathalan AAabdan mamlookan la yaqdiru AAala shayin waman razaqnahu minna rizqan hasanan fahuwa yunfiqu minhu sirran wajahran hal yastawoona alhamdu lillahi bal aktharuhum la yaAAlamoona

Translation:

Allah brought you out of your mothers wombs in this state that you knew nothing: He gave you ears and eyes and thinking minds so that you may be grateful.

Translit: WaAllahu akhrajakum min butooni ommahatikum la taAAlamoona shayan wajaAAala lakumu alssamAAa waalabsara waalafidata laAAallakum tashkuroona

Allah has sealed the hearts, the ears and the eyes of such people and they have become neglectful:

Translit: Olaika allatheena tabaAAa Allahu AAala quloobihim wasamAAihim waabsarihim waolaika humu alghafiloona

So, O people, eat of the lawful and pure provisions with which Allah has blessed you and show gratitude113 to Allah for His favors, if you are sincerely obedient to Him.

Translit: Fakuloo mimma razaqakumu Allahu halalan tayyiban waoshkuroo niAAmata Allahi in kuntum iyyahu taAAbudoona

Glory be to Him, Who transported His Servant one night from the Masjid-i-Haram to the distant Temple, whose surroundings We have blessed, so that we might show him some of Our Sings:1 the fact is that He alone is All-Hearing and All-Seeing.

Translit: Subhana allathee asra biAAabdihi laylan mina almasjidi alharami ila almasjidi alaqsa allathee barakna hawlahu linuriyahu min ayatina innahu huwa alssameeAAu albaseeru

You are the descendants of those whom We bore in the Ark with Noah, and he was truly a grateful servant".

Translit: Thurriyyata man hamalna maAAa noohin innahu kana AAabdan shakooran

Your Lord has enjoined the following: 1. You should not worship anyone but Him. 2. Treat your parents with great consideration; if either or both of them live with you in their old age, do not say even "fie" to them: nor rebuke them, but speak kind words to them;

In this Qur'an, We employed different ways to make the people understand the Message, but the majority of them persisted in unbelief,

Translit: Walaqad sarrafna lilnnasi fee hatha alqurani min kulli mathalin faaba aktharu alnnasi illa kufooran

Could they not perceive that the same Allah, Who created the Earth and the Heavens, has the power to create the like of them? He has ordained a time for resurrecting them which shall inevitably come, but these workers of iniquity persist in their disbelief.

Translit: Awalam yaraw anna Allaha allathee khalaqa alssamawati waalarda qadirun AAala an yakhluqa mithlahum wajaAAala lahum ajalan la rayba feehi faaba alththalimoona illa kufooran

All praise is for Allah, Who has sent down this Book to His Servant, and assigned nothing crooked to it.

Now that you have forsaken them and discarded the deities they worship besides Allah, let us go to such and such a cave for refuge. Your Lord will extend to you His mercy, and order your affairs for you for the best.â€

If you had seen them, it would have appeared to you as if they were awake, whereas in fact they were asleep. We turned them about to the right and the left sides. And their dog was sitting at the entrance of the Cave with outstretched forelegs. If you had looked at them, you would have turned on your heels and their sight would have struck you with terror.

Translit: Watahsabuhum ayqathan wahum ruqoodun wanuqallibuhum thata alyameeni wathata alshshimali wakalbuhum basitun thiraAAayhi bialwaseedi lawi ittalaAAta AAalayhim lawallayta minhum firaran walamulita minhum ruAAban

and there they found one of our servants whom We had blessed with special favor and had given him a special knowledge from Ourselves.

Then they traveled on until they reached a certain habitation and requested its inhabitants to give them some food but they declined to entertain them. There they saw a wall which was about to fall down. That person set it up again. Moses said, "Had you wanted, you could have demanded payment for your labor.â€

Here is an accounts of the mercy your Lord showed to His servant Zachariah

Whereupon the child spoke out, "I am a servant of Allah: He has given me the Book and He has appointed me a Prophet,

(And Jesus had declared) "Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him; this is the Right Way."

On that Day when they shall appear before Us, their ears and their eyes shall become very sharp, but today these transgressors (neither hear nor see the Truth and) have strayed into manifest deviation.

(Remind them of the time,) when he said to his father, "Dear father! why do you worship those things, which do not hear nor see nor avail you anything?

Dear father! do not serve Satan, for Satan is disobedient to the Merciful.

Accordingly, when he left those people and their deities besides Allah, We granted to him descendants like Isaac and Jacob, and We made each of them a Prophet

Translit: Falamma iAAtazalahum wama yaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi wahabna lahu ishaqa wayaAAqooba wakullan jaAAalna nabiyyan

He is the Lord, of the Heavens and the Lord of the Earth, and of all that is between them; so serve Him and be steadfast in His service. Do you know of any other being equal in rank to Him?

Translit: Rabbu alssamawati waalardi wama baynahuma faoAAbudhu waistabir liAAibadatihi hal taAAlamu lahu samiyyan

All those who are in the heavens and the earth, are going to be presented before Him as servants,

It is Who am Allah: there is no god but Me: so worship Me and establish Salat to remember Me.

We showed all (kinds of) Our Signs to Pharaoh, but he went on treating them as falsehood and refused to believe.

Translit: Walaqad araynahu ayatina kullaha fakaththaba waaba

Translation:

Pharaoh said, "Have you believed in him before I gave you permission? Obviously, he is your master who has taught you sorcery. Well, now I will have your hands and feet cut off on alternate sides46 and crucify you on the trunks of palm-trees then you shall know whose punishment is more terrible and tasting (mine or that of Moses)."

Translit: Qala amantum lahu qabla an athana lakum innahu lakabeerukumu allathee AAallamakumu alssihra falaoqattiAAanna aydiyakum waarjulakum min khilafin walaosallibannakum fee juthooAAi alnnakhli walataAAlamunna ayyuna ashaddu AAathaban waabqa

We have believed in our Lord so that He may pardon our errors, and forgive us the sin of sorcery which you forced us to practice. Allah is Best and Eternal."

Translit: Inna amanna birabbina liyaghfira lana khatayana wama akrahtana AAalayhi mina alssihri waAllahu khayrun waabqa

Translation:

This is how We recompense (in this world) those who transgress the bounds and do not believe in the Revelations of their Lord. And the torment of the Hereafter is more terrible and more lasting.

Translit: Wakathalika najzee man asrafa walam yumin biayati rabbihi walaAAathabu alakhirati ashaddu waabqa

And do not cast an envious look at the worldly property We have bestowed on different kinds of people, for We have given them all that to put them to trial, and the lawful provision of your Lord is better and more lasting:

Translit: Wala tamuddanna AAaynayka ila ma mattaAAna bihi azwajan minhum zahrata alhayati alddunya linaftinahum feehi warizqu rabbika khayrun waabqa

They give a mere formal hearing to every new Revelation that comes to them from their Lord and remain engaged in the game (of life)

Translit: Ma yateehim min thikrin min rabbihim muhdathin illa istamaAAoohu wahum yalAAaboona

Translation:

The fact is that to every Messenger whom We sent down before you, We revealed this same thing: "There is no other deity than Me: so worship Me alone."

Translit: Wama arsalna min qablika min rasoolin illa noohee ilayhi annahu la ilaha illa ana faoAAbudooni

Translation:

The fact is that We provided them and their forefathers with provisions of life until the period grew too long for them. But can they not see that We are coming in the land, shrinking its boundaries for them on all sides? Do they, then, expect to come out victorious (over Us)?

Translit: Bal mattaAAna haolai waabaahum hatta tala AAalayhimu alAAumuru afala yarawna anna natee alarda nanqusuha min atrafiha afahumu alghaliboona

Translation:

They replied, "We found our forefathers worshiping them".

Translit: Qaloo wajadna abaana laha AAabideena

Translation:

He said, "You have gone astray and so had your forefathers manifestly deviated from the Right Way."

Translit: Qala laqad kuntum antum waabaokum fee dalalin mubeenin

Translation:

At this Abraham said, "Do you even then discard Allah and worship these things which are unable to do any good or harm to you?

Translit: Qala afataAAbudoona min dooni Allahi ma la yanfaAAukum shayan wala yadurrukum

Translation:

Fie upon you and the deities you worship instead of Allah! What! have you got no sense at all?"

Translit: Offin lakum walima taAAbudoona min dooni Allahi afala taAAqiloona

Translation:

We appointed them leaders who guided others by Our Command. We also enjoined them by Revelation to do righteous deeds and establish Salat and pay Zakat dues, and they all worshiped Us.

Translit: WajaAAalnahum aimmatan yahdoona biamrina waawhayna ilayhim fiAAla alkhayrati waiqama alssalati waeetaa alzzakati wakanoo lana AAabideena

Translation:

We heard his prayer and relieved him of his affliction and gave him back not only those of his family but also as many more with them as a favor from Us so that it may serve as a reminder to Our worshipers.

Translit: Faistajabna lahu fakashafna ma bihi min durrin waataynahu ahlahu wamithlahum maAAahum rahmatan min AAindina wathikra lilAAabideena

Translation:

Indeed this community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord: so worship Me alone.

Translit: Inna hathihi ommatukum ommatan wahidatan waana rabbukum faoAAbudooni

Translation:

As a matter of fact, you and your deities, whom you worship beside Allah, are fuel of Hell, wherein you have to enter;

Translit: Innakum wama taAAbudoona min dooni Allahi hasabu jahannama antum laha waridoona

Translation:

Surely in this is a great news for those people who worship Us.

Translit: Inna fee hatha labalaghan liqawmin AAabideena

Translation:

saying, "This is the future you have prepared for yourself with your own hands" . In fact, Allah is not unjust to His servants.

Translit: Thalika bima qaddamat yadaka waanna Allaha laysa bithallamin lilAAabeedi

Translation:

And there is a type of man who serves Allah standing on the borders (of the Faith15 ); is if some good comes to him, he is satisfied (with his Faith), but if he encounters a trial, he turns his back (upon it). Thus he loses both this world and the Hereafter: this is the manifest loss.

Translit: Wamina alnnasi man yaAAbudu Allaha AAala harfin fain asabahu khayrun itmaanna bihi wain asabathu fitnatun inqalaba AAala wajhihi khasira alddunya waalakhirata thalika huwa alkhusranu almubeenu

Translation:

They worship, besides Allah, those for whom He has sent down no authority nor they themselves have any knowledge about them. Such transgressors have no helper.

Translit: WayaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi ma lam yunazzil bihi sultanan wama laysa lahum bihi AAilmun wama lilththalimeena min naseerin

Translation:

O people, who have believed, bow down and prostrate yourselves before Allah, worship your Lord and do righteous deeds: it may be that you attain true success.

Translit: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo irkaAAoo waosjudoo waoAAbudoo rabbakum waifAAaloo alkhayra laAAallakum tuflihoona

Translation:

We sent Noah to his people:24 he said, "O my people, worship Allah alone; you have no other deity than Him. Are you not afraid (of shirk)?"

Translit: Walaqad arsalna noohan ila qawmihi faqala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu afala tattaqoona

Translation:

Then We sent to them a Messenger from among themselves, (who said,) "Worship Allah alone: you have no other deity than Him. Are you not afraid (of disbelief)?"

Translit: Faarsalna feehim rasoolan minhum ani oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu afala tattaqoona

Translation:

They said, "What! should we believe in these two men who are human beings like ourselves and whose people are our bondsmen?"

Translit: Faqaloo anuminu libasharayni mithlina waqawmuhuma lana AAabidoona

Translation:

It is Allah Who has endowed you with the faculties of hearing and seeing and given you hearts to think, but you do not show any gratitude.

Translit: Wahuwa allathee anshaa lakumu alssamAAa waalabsara waalafidata qaleelan ma tashkuroona

Translation:

We have heard many such threats and so did our forefathers before us. These are nothing but ancient tales".

Translit: Laqad wuAAidna nahnu waabaona hatha min qablu in hatha illa asateeru alawwaleena

Translation:

Did you think that We had created you without any purpose, and that you would never be brought back to Us?"

Translit: Afahasibtum annama khalaqnakum AAabathan waannakum ilayna la turjaAAoona

Translation:

as are not diverted by trade and merchandise from remembering Him and from establishing Salat and paying Zakat, for they fear the Day when the hearts will be overturned and the eyes will become petrified.

Translit: Rijalun la tulheehim tijaratun wala bayAAun AAan thikri Allahi waiqami alssalati waeetai alzzakati yakhafoona yawman tataqallabu feehi alquloobu waalabsaru

Translation:

Allah has promised to those among you who believe and do righteous deeds, that He will make them successors in the land just as He made those who passed away before them, and that He will establish their religion, which He has approved for them, on strong foundations and will change their (present) state of fear into peace and security. Let them worship Me and associate none with Me; and the one who disbelieves after this," shall be of those who are perverse transgressors.

Translit: WaAAada Allahu allatheena amanoo minkum waAAamiloo alssalihati layastakhlifannahum fee alardi kama istakhlafa allatheena min qablihim walayumakkinanna lahum deenahumu allathee irtada lahum walayubaddilannahum min baAAdi khawfihim amnan yaAAbudoonanee la yushrikoona bee shayan waman kafara baAAda thalika faolaika humu alfasiqoona

Translation:

Highly blessed is He, Who has sent down Al-Furqan to His servant so that it may be a warner to all mankind.

Translit: Tabaraka allathee nazzala alfurqana AAala AAabdihi liyakoona lilAAalameena natheeran

Translation:

And on that Day (your Lord ) will gather all these people together as well as their deities, whom they worship besides Allah. Then He will ask them, "Did you mislead these servants of Mine, or did they themselves go astray?"

Translit: Wayawma yahshuruhum wama yaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi fayaqoolu aantum adlaltum AAibadee haolai am hum dalloo alssabeela

Translation:

They will answer, "Glory be to Thee! We dared not take any guardian besides Thee: (they were misled because) Thou didst give them and their forefathers all the good things of life till they forgot the Admonition, and incurred the punishment."

Translit: Qaloo subhanaka ma kana yanbaghee lana an nattakhitha min doonika min awliyaa walakin mattaAAtahum waabaahum hatta nasoo alththikra wakanoo qawman booran

Translation:

We present the same phenomenon over and over again before them so that they may learn a lesson from it; but most people decline to adopt any other attitude than of disbelief and ingratitude.

Translit: Walaqad sarrafnahu baynahum liyaththakkaroo faaba aktharu alnnasi illa kufooran

Translation:

Yet they worship, instead of Allah, those who can neither benefit them nor harm them: more than this, the disbeliever has become a helper of every rebel against his Lord.

Translit: WayaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi ma la yanfaAAuhum wala yadurruhum wakana alkafiru AAala rabbihi thaheeran

Translation:

O, Muhammad, tell the people, "My Lord does not care at all if you do not invoke Him. Now that you have denied (His Revelations), you will soon be awarded such a punishment which you will never be able to avoid."

Translit: Qul ma yaAAbao bikum rabbee lawla duAAaokum faqad kaththabtum fasawfa yakoonu lizaman

Translation:

As for the favor of which you have reminded me, the fact is that you had reduced the Israelites to bondsmen.

Translit: Watilka niAAmatun tamunnuha AAalayya an AAabbadta banee israeela

(No sooner had he uttered these words than) Moses cast down his staff, and suddenly it became a serpent.

Translit: Faalqa AAasahu faitha hiya thuAAbanun mubeenun

when he asked his father and his people: "What are these things that you worship?"

Translit: Ith qala liabeehi waqawmihi ma taAAbudoona

They answered, "These are idols which we worship and we serve them devotedly."

At this, Abraham said, "Have you ever seen (with open eyes) the things?

Translit: Qala afaraaytum ma kuntum taAAbudoona

which you and your elders have been worshiping?

Translit: Antum waabaokumu alaqdamoona

and they will be asked: "Where are those whom you worshiped

Translit: Waqeela lahum ayna ma kuntum taAAbudoona

Translation:

What! You erect for mere pleasure, a monument on every high spot,

Translit: Atabnoona bikulli reeAAin ayatan taAAbathoona

Translation:

The worship of the deities whom she served instead of Allah had hindered her (from believing), for she came of an unbelieving people.

Translit: Wasaddaha ma kanat taAAbudu min dooni Allahi innaha kanat min qawmin kafireena

Translation:

And to Thamud We sent their brother Salih (with the message) that they should worship Allah, but they divided themselves forthwith into two wrangling groups.

Translit: Walaqad arsalna ila thamooda akhahum salihan ani oAAbudoo Allaha faitha hum fareeqani yakhtasimoona

Translation:

The disbelievers say, "When we and our forefathers have become dust, shall we be really raised up from the graves?

Translit: Waqala allatheena kafaroo aitha kunna turaban waabaona ainna lamukhrajoona

Translation:

This news has been given to us as well as to our forefathers before us, but these are nothing but tales, which we have been hearing since the ancient times."

Translit: Laqad wuAAidna hatha nahnu waabaona min qablu in hatha illa asateeru alawwaleena

(O Muhammad, say to them:) "What I have been commanded is that I should worship the Lord of this City, Who has made it sacred, and Who is the Owner of every thing. I have been commanded to live as a Muslim

Translit: Innama omirtu an aAAbuda rabba hathihi albaldati allathee harramaha walahu kullu shayin waomirtu an akoona mina almuslimeena

Translation:

And when he arrived at the well of Madyan he saw a multitude of people watering their animals and apart from them two women keeping their animals back. Moses asked the women "What is your worry?" They said "We cannot water our animals until these shepherds have taken away their animals; and our father is a very old man."

Translit: Walamma warada maa madyana wajada AAalayhi ommatan mina alnnasi yasqoona wawajada min doonihimu imraatayni tathoodani qala ma khatbukuma qalata la nasqee hatta yusdira alrriAAao waaboona shaykhun kabeerun

Translation:

Whatever you have been given, is merely a provision for this worldly life and its adornment; and that which is with Allah is better and more lasting. Do you not use common sense?

Translit: Wama ooteetum min shayin famataAAu alhayati alddunya wazeenatuha wama AAinda Allahi khayrun waabqa afala taAAqiloona

Translation:

Those concerning whom this Word will be true, will say, "Our Lord, these are indeed the people whom we had misled: we led them astray even as we ourselves were led astray. We plead our innocence before You: they did not worship us."

Translit: Qala allatheena haqqa AAalayhimu alqawlu rabbana haolai allatheena aghwayna aghwaynahum kama ghawayna tabarrana ilayka ma kanoo iyyana yaAAbudoona

And (We) sent Abraham, when he said to his people â€œWorship Allah and fear Him, this is better for you only if you know it.

Translit: Waibraheema ith qala liqawmihi oAAbudoo Allaha waittaqoohu thalikum khayrun lakum in kuntum taAAlamoona

Translation:

Those whom you worship instead of Allah are mere idols, and you are forging a lie. In fact, Those whom you worship, besides Allah, have no power to give you any sustenance. Ask Allah for sustenance, and worship Him alone and be grateful to Him, for to Him you will be returned.

Translit: Innama taAAbudoona min dooni Allahi awthanan watakhluqoona ifkan inna allatheena taAAbudoona min dooni Allahi la yamlikoona lakum rizqan faibtaghoo AAinda Allahi alrrizqa waoAAbudoohu waoshkuroo lahu ilayhi turjaAAoona

Translation:

And to Madyan, We sent their brother Shu'aib. He said, "O my people, worship Allah and look forward to the Last Day, and do not commit excesses in the land wickedly."

Translit: Waila madyana akhahum shuAAayban faqala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha waorjoo alyawma alakhira wala taAAthaw fee alardi mufsideena

O My servants, who have believed, My earth is vast: so worship Me alone.

Translit: Ya AAibadiya allatheena amanoo inna ardee wasiAAatun faiyyaya faoAAbudooni

Translation:

then He shaped him and breathed into him of His Spirit; and He gave you the ears, and the eyes and the hearts: yet you are seldom grateful.

Translit: Thumma sawwahu wanafakha feehi min roohihi wajaAAala lakumu alssamAAa waalabsara waalafidata qaleelan ma tashkuroona

Translation:

Allah brought down from their fortresses those of the people of the Book, who had joined forces with the invaders and created such terror in their hearts that some of them you are slaying today and some taking as prisoners.

Translit: Waanzala allatheena thaharoohum min ahli alkitabi min sayaseehim waqathafa fee quloobihimu alrruAAba fareeqan taqtuloona watasiroona fareeqan

Translation:

We offered this trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains but they refused to bear it and were afraid of it, the but man undertook to bear it. Indeed, he is unjust and ignorant.

Translit: Inna AAaradna alamanata AAala alssamawati waalardi waaljibali faabayna an yahmilnaha waashfaqna minha wahamalaha alinsanu innahu kana thalooman jahoolan

Translation:

Have they never seen the earth, which surrounds them from front and from behind? If We will, We can sink them underground, or cause some fragments of the sky to fall down upon them. There is' indeed a Sign in this for every such servant who turns to God.

Translit: Afalam yaraw ila ma bayna aydeehim wama khalfahum mina alssamai waalardi in nasha nakhsif bihimu alarda aw nusqit AAalayhim kisafan mina alssamai inna fee thalika laayatan likulli AAabdin muneebin

Translation:

And the Day when He will gather all mankind together, He will ask the angels, "Did they really worship you?"

Translit: Wayawma yahshuruhum jameeAAan thumma yaqoolu lilmalaikati ahaolai iyyakum kanoo yaAAbudoona

Translation:

They will reply, "Glory be to Thee: our connection is with Thee, not with them. They, in fact, worshiped the jinns, not us. It was in them that most of them believed."

Translit: Qaloo subhanaka anta waliyyuna min doonihim bal kanoo yaAAbudoona aljinna aktharuhum bihim muminoona

Translation:

When Our clear Revelations are recited to these people, they say, "This person only wants to turn you away from those deities whom your forefathers have been worshiping." And they say, "This (Qur'an) is only a forged falsehood." When the Truth came before these disbelievers, they said, "This is plain magic,"

Translit: Waitha tutla AAalayhim ayatuna bayyinatin qaloo ma hatha illa rajulun yureedu an yasuddakum AAamma kana yaAAbudu abaokum waqaloo ma hatha illa ifkun muftaran waqala allatheena kafaroo lilhaqqi lamma jaahum in hatha illa sihrun mubeenun

Translation:

"Well, why should I not worship the Being Who has created me, and to whom all of you have to return?

Translit: Wama liya la aAAbudu allathee fataranee wailayhi turjaAAoona

Translation:

Children of Adam, did I not enjoin on you not to worship Satan, who is your open enemy,

Translit: Alam aAAhad ilaykum ya banee adama an la taAAbudoo alshshaytana innahu lakum AAaduwwun mubeenun

but to worship Me alone? This is the Straight Way.

Translit: Waani oAAbudoonee hatha siratun mustaqeemun

And also our forefathers of ancient times?"

(It will be commanded): "Gather all the unjust people and their associates together, and those gods whom they used to worship

When he said to his father and his people, "What are these things that you worship?

Translit: Ith qala liabeehi waqawmihi matha taAAbudoona

He said, "Do you worship those that you have yourselves carved?

Translit: Qala ataAAbudoona ma tanhitoona

Therefore you and your gods

Translit: Fainnakum wama taAAbudoona

Translation:

and watch (them); soon they will see it for themselves.

Translit: Waabsirhum fasawfa yubsiroona

Translation:

and watch; soon they will themselves see.

Translation:

O Prophet,have patience at what they utter, and tell them the story of Our servant David, who was a man of great strength. He turned to Allah in every matter.

Translit: Isbir AAala ma yaqooloona waothkur AAabdana dawooda tha alaydi innahu awwabun

Translation:

Then We forgave him for his error, and certainly he has a place of nearness with Us and an excellent abode!

Translit: Faghafarna lahu thalika wainna lahu AAindana lazulfa wahusna maabin

Translit: Wawahabna lidawooda sulaymana niAAma alAAabdu innahu awwabun

Translation:

Surely, he has a place of nearness to Us and an excellent resort.

Translit: Wainna lahu AAindana lazulfa wahusna maabin

Translation:

And make mention of Our servant Job when he called upon his Lord, (saying), "Satan has afflicted me with great distress and torment."

Translit: Waothkur AAabdana ayyooba ith nada rabbahu annee massaniya alshshaytanu binusbin waAAathabin

Translation:

(And We said to him:) "Take a handful of straw and strike therewith: do not break your oath." We found him patient, an excellent servant, who turned to his Lord over and over again.

Translit: Wakhuth biyadika dighthan faidrib bihi wala tahnath inna wajadnahu sabiran niAAma alAAabdu innahu awwabun

And make mention of Our servants, Abraham and Isaac and Jacob: they were men of great power and insight.

Translit: Waothkur AAibadana ibraheema waishaqa wayaAAqooba olee alaydee waalabsari

Translation:

This was an admonition. (Now listen:) for the righteous there is indeed an excellent resort:

Translit: Hatha thikrun wainna lilmuttaqeena lahusna maabin

Translation:

This is (the recompense) for the righteous. And for the rebellious, there is a most evil home-

Translit: Hatha wainna lilttagheena lasharra maabin

Translation:

(O Muhammad,) We have sent down this Book to you with the truth, so worship Allah alone, making your religion His exclusively.

Translit: Inna anzalna ilayka alkitaba bialhaqqi faoAAbudi Allaha mukhlisan lahu alddeena

Translation:

Beware! Religion is exclusively Allah's right. As for those who have taken other guardians besides Him (and justify their conduct, saying): "We worship them only that they may bring us closer to Allah." Allah will surely judge between them concerning all that in which they differ. Allah does not show guidance to any liar and denier of the truth.

Translit: Ala lillahi alddeenu alkhalisu waallatheena ittakhathoo min doonihi awliyaa ma naAAbuduhum illa liyuqarriboona ila Allahi zulfa inna Allaha yahkumu baynahum fee ma hum feehi yakhtalifoona inna Allaha la yahdee man huwa kathibun kaffarun

(O Prophet,) say to them, "I have been commanded to serve Allah, making religion sincerely His,

Translit: Qul innee omirtu an aAAbuda Allaha mukhlisan lahu alddeena

Translation:

Say, "I shall serve Allah alone, making my religion sincerely His.

Translit: Quli Allaha aAAbudu mukhlisan lahu deenee

Translation:

As for you, you may serve whomever you please besides Him." Say, "The real losers are those who would risk loss for themselves and for their families on the Day of Resurrection." Note it well: this is the real bankruptcy.

Translit: FaoAAbudoo ma shitum min doonihi qul inna alkhasireena allatheena khasiroo anfusahum waahleehim yawma alqiyamati ala thalika huwa alkhusranu almubeenu

Translation:

Contrary to this, those who refrained from serving taghut and turned to Allah, for them there is good news. So (O Prophet,) give good news to those of My servants

Translit: Waallatheena ijtanaboo alttaghoota an yaAAbudooha waanaboo ila Allahi lahumu albushra fabashshir AAibadi

Translation:

(O Prophet: ) Is not Allah enough for His servant? These people frighten you with others besides Him, whereas there is none to guide him whom Allah lets go astray,

Translit: Alaysa Allahu bikafin AAabdahu wayukhawwifoonaka biallatheena min doonihi waman yudlili Allahu fama lahu min hadin

Translation:

(O Prophet,) say to them, "Ignorant people! Do you bid me worship others than Allah?"

Translit: Qul afaghayra Allahi tamuroonnee aAAbudu ayyuha aljahiloona

Translation:

Therefore, (O Prophet), you should worship only Allah and be among His grateful servants.

Translit: Bali Allaha faoAAbud wakun mina alshshakireena

Translation:

O Prophet, tell the people, "I have been forbidden to worship those whom you invoke instead of Allah. (How can I do this) when clear Signs have come to me from my Lord? I have been commanded to submit to the Lord of all creation. "

Translit: Qul innee nuheetu an aAAbuda allatheena tadAAoona min dooni Allahi lamma jaaniya albayyinatu min rabbee waomirtu an oslima lirabbi alAAalameena

Translation:

When the Messengers of God came to them from every side, from front and from behind, saying, "Worship none but Allah" , they said, "Had our Lord so willed, He would have sent down angels; therefore, we deny what you have been sent with."

Translit: Ith jaathumu alrrusulu min bayni aydeehim wamin khalfihim alla taAAbudoo illa Allaha qaloo law shaa rabbuna laanzala malaikatan fainna bima orsiltum bihi kafiroona

Translation:

Their former generations will be withheld till their later generations also will join them. Then, when all will have reached there, their ears and their eyes and their very skins will bear witness against them concerning what they had been doing in this world.

Translit: Hatta itha ma jaooha shahida AAalayhim samAAuhum waabsaruhum wajulooduhum bima kanoo yaAAmaloona

Translation:

Those who said, "Allah is our Lord," and then stood steadfast, angels descend on them and say, "Fear not nor grieve, and rejoice in the good news of Paradise that has been promised to you:

Translit: Inna allatheena qaloo rabbuna Allahu thumma istaqamoo tatanazzalu AAalayhimu almalaikatu alla takhafoo wala tahzanoo waabshiroo bialjannati allatee kuntum tooAAadoona

Translation:

Among the signs of Allah are the night and the day and the sun and the moon. Do not prostrate yourselves before the sun and the moon, but prostrate yourselves before that God, Who created them, if You really are His worshipers.

Translit: Wamin ayatihi allaylu waalnnaharu waalshshamsu waalqamaru la tasjudoo lilshshamsi wala lilqamari waosjudoo lillahi alathee khalaqahunna in kuntum iyyahu taAAbudoona

Translation:

Whoever does good will do so for his own self, and whoever does evil will himself bear its consequences: your Lord is never unjust to His servants.

Translit: Man AAamila salihan falinafsihi waman asaa faAAalayha wama rabbuka bithallamin lilAAabeedi

Translation:

Whatever you have been given, is merely a provision for the transitory life of this world, and that which is with Allah is better as well as more lasting. That is for those who have believed and put their trust in their Lord.

They say, "Had the Merciful God willed (that we should not worship them), We would never have worshiped them." They do not at all know the fact of the matter: they only conjecture.

Recall the time when Abraham had said to his father and his people, "I have nothing to do with those whom you worship.

We had given them that which We have not given you. We had given them ears and eyes and hearts, but nothing did their ears and their eyes and their hearts avail them, because they denied the Revelations of Allah, and they were encompassed by the same thing that they mocked.

O you who have believed, neither should men mock other men, it may be that these are better than they; nor should women mock other women, it may be that these are better than they. Do not taunt one another among yourselves, nor call one another by nicknames. It is an evil thing to be called by a bad name after faith. Those who fail to avoid this are wrongdoers.

O you who have believed, avoid much suspicion, for some suspicions are sins. Do not spy, nor should any one backbite the other. Is there any among you who would like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay, you yourselves abhor it. Fear Allah, for Allah is Acceptor of repentance and All-Merciful.

The desert Arabs say, "We have believed." Say to them, "You have not believed: rather say, â€œWe have submitted.â€ Faith has not yet entered your hearts. If you adopt obedience to Allah and His Messenger, He will not diminish anything from the reward of your works." Surely, Allah is All-Forgiving, All-Merciful.

In fact, the true believers are those who believed in Allah and His Messenger; then they entertained no doubt and exerted their utmost in the Way of Allah with their selves and their wealth. They indeed are the truthful ones.

He it is Who drove the disbelievers from among the people of the Book out of their houses at the very first assault. You did not think that they would ever go out, and they too on their part were thinking that their fortresses would protect them from Allah, but Allah came upon them whence they had little expected. He cast terror into their hearts with the result that they were destroying their dwellings by their own hands as well as by the hands of the believers. So, take heed, O you who have eyes to see!

There is indeed an excellent example for you in Abraham and his Companions when they said to their people plainly: "We have nothing to do with you and your gods whom you worship instead of Allah. We renounce you and there has arisen between us and you enmity and hatred for ever, until you believe in Allah, the One." But Abraham's saying this to his father (is excepted); "I shall certainly pray for your forgiveness, though I have no power to get anything for you from Allah." (And the prayer of Abraham and his companions was: ) "O our Lord, in you alone have we put our trust and to You alone have we turned and to You we shall return finally. â€

It may well be that if the Prophet divorces all of you, Allah will give him in your place better wives, who are true Muslims, who are believing and obedient, penitent, worshiping, and given to fasting, be they previously married or virgins.
