Translation:

Remember when you said, "O Moses, we are not going to believe you until we see with our own eyes Allah (talking to you)". At that very time a thunderbolt struck you while you were looking on and you fell lifeless.

Translit: Waith qultum ya moosa lan numina laka hatta nara Allaha jahratan faakhathatkumu alssaAAiqatu waantum tanthuroona

Translation:

Their end shall be the same as that of the people of Pharaoh and other disbelievers who went before them; they treated the Divine Revelations as falsehoods and Allah seized them because of their sins; for Allah is very stern in retribution.

Translit: Kadabi ali firAAawna waallatheena min qablihim kaththaboo biayatina faakhathahumu Allahu bithunoobihim waAllahu shadeedu alAAiqabi

Remember, Allah made this Covenant with His Messengers: "Now that We have given you the Book and Wisdom, you are hereby bound to believe in and help a Messenger, who comes to you afterwards, confirming the teachings you already possess." After this, He asked, "Do you confirm this and take up the heavy responsibility of your Covenant with Me?" They said, "Yes, we confirm." Then Allah said, "Very well, bear witness to this and I also bear witness with you.

Translit: Waith akhatha Allahu meethaqa alnnabiyyeena lama ataytukum min kitabin wahikmatin thumma jaakum rasoolun musaddiqun lima maAAakum latuminunna bihi walatansurunnahu qala aaqrartum waakhathtum AAala thalikum isree qaloo aqrarna qala faishhadoo waana maAAakum mina alshshahideena

And how is it proper for you to take it, when both of you have enjoyed conjugal happiness and she received from you a solemn pledge of union?

Translit: Wakayfa takhuthoonahu waqad afda baAAdukum ila baAAdin waakhathna minkum meethaqan ghaleethan

Forbidden to you are your mothers, daughters, sisters, paternal aunts, maternal aunts, brothers daughters, sisters daughters, your foster mothers who have given a suckle to you, your foster sisters, who have taken suckle with you, the mothers of your wives, the daughters of your wives whom you have brought up, the daughters of those wives with whom you have had conjugal relations, but not of those wives with whom you have had no conjugal relations, and it is not sinful for you to marry their daughters (after having divorced them); and also forbidden to you are the wives of your sons who are from your loins, and it is unlawful for you to keep two real sisters as wives at one and the same time,42 though what happened in the past is excepted, for Allah is indeed Forgiving, Merciful.

Translit: Hurrimat AAalaykum ommahatukum wabanatukum waakhawatukum waAAammatukum wakhalatukum wabanatu alakhi wabanatu alokhti waommahatukumu allatee ardaAAnakum waakhawatukum mina alrradaAAati waommahatu nisaikum warabaibukumu allatee fee hujoorikum min nisaikumu allatee dakhaltum bihinna fain lam takoonoo dakhaltum bihinna fala junaha AAalaykum wahalailu abnaikumu allatheena min aslabikum waan tajmaAAoo bayna alokhtayni illa ma qad salafa inna Allaha kana ghafooran raheeman

Translation:

If the people of the Book are today asking you to cause a Book to come down upon them from heaven, they have already made even more monstrous demands from Moses. They said to him, "Make us see Allah with our own eyes." As a result of their wickedness, a thunder-bolt smote them all of a sudden. Then they took the calf as the object of their worship, after they had seen clear signs: but even after this, We forgave them. We bestowed upon Moses a clear Commandment

Translit: Yasaluka ahlu alkitabi an tunazzila AAalayhim kitaban mina alssamai faqad saaloo moosa akbara min thalika faqaloo arina Allaha jahratan faakhathathumu alssaAAiqatu bithulmihim thumma ittakhathoo alAAijla min baAAdi ma jaathumu albayyinatu faAAafawna AAan thalika waatayna moosa sultanan mubeenan

and raised Mount Tur over them and took a Covenant from them (to obey it). We enjoined them to enter the gate bowing down humbly. We said to them, "Do not break the Sabbath," and took a solemn Covenant from them to observe this law strictly.

Translit: WarafaAAna fawqahumu alttoora bimeethaqihim waqulna lahumu odkhuloo albaba sujjadan waqulna lahum la taAAdoo fee alssabti waakhathna minhum meethaqan ghaleethan

But if it is discovered that the two had been guilty of the same sin, then two other better qualified witnesses than the former, from among those who were deprived of their right, should come forward and testify upon oath, by Allah, "Our testimony is truer than their testimony, and we have not made any transgression in our testimony: we shall be among the unjust, if we do so."

We sent Messengers before you to many peoples and afflicted them with calamities and misfortunes so that they might bow down before Us with humility.

Consequently a shocking catastrophe overtook them and they lay lifeless on their faces in their dwellings.

It, however, so happened that a shocking catastrophe overtook them and they remained lying prostrate in their dwellings. Those who treated Shu`aib as an impostor were so wiped out as if they had never lived in those dwellings.

Then We changed their adversity for good fortune till they became very prosperous and said, "Our forefathers also had their adversity and prosperity". At last We seized them all of a sudden when they were quite unaware.

In the meanwhile when Moses full of anger and sorrow returned to his people, he said, "Very evil is it that you have done in my place after me! Could you not patiently wait for the Commandment of Allah?" And he threw down the tablets, and, seizing his brother by the hair of his head, dragged him. Aaron said, "Son of my mother, these people overpowered me and were going to kill me: so, let not the enemies gloat over me: do not count me among the people who have done wrong."

Translit: Walamma rajaAAa moosa ila qawmihi ghadbana asifan qala bisama khalaftumoonee min baAAdee aAAajiltum amra rabbikum waalqa alalwaha waakhatha birasi akheehi yajurruhu ilayhi qala ibna omma inna alqawma istadAAafoonee wakadoo yaqtuloonanee fala tushmit biya alaAAdaa wala tajAAalnee maAAa alqawmi alththalimeena

Translation:

However, when they totally forgot the teachings they were reminded of, We saved those who used to forbid evil, and seized with a severe scourge all others who were transgressors, because of the acts of disobedience they did.

Translit: Falamma nasoo ma thukkiroo bihi anjayna allatheena yanhawna AAani alssooi waakhathna allatheena thalamoo biAAathabin baeesin bima kanoo yafsuqoona

This happened to them just as it had been happening to the people of Pharaoh and to the peoples before them: this was because they rejected His revelations and He seized them as a consequence of their sins, indeed Allah is All-Powerful and severe in inflicting chastisement.

Translit: Kadabi ali firAAawna waallatheena min qablihim kafaroo biayati Allahi faakhathahumu Allahu bithunoobihim inna Allaha qawiyyun shadeedu alAAiqabi

Translation:

And to encounter them, provide whatever force and trained ever-ready horses you can afford whereby you may strike terror into the enemies of Allah and your enemies as well and others besides them whom you do not know but whom Allah knows. The reward of whatever you expend in the way of Allah shall be repaid to you in full, and you shall not be wronged in any way.

Translit: WaaAAiddoo lahum ma istataAAtum min quwwatin wamin ribati alkhayli turhiboona bihi AAaduwwa Allahi waAAaduwwakum waakhareena min doonihim la taAAlamoonahumu Allahu yaAAlamuhum wama tunfiqoo min shayin fee sabeeli Allahi yuwaffa ilaykum waantum la tuthlamoona

It may be that Allah will turn to them again with kindness

Translit: Waakharoona iAAtarafoo bithunoobihim khalatoo AAamalan salihan waakhara sayyian AAasa Allahu an yatooba AAalayhim inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun

There are some others who yet await Allahs decision: He may either punish them or turn to them again with mercy: Allah knows everything and is All-Wise.101

In due course a great scourge overwhelmed them in all justice and We cast them away like scum. So away with the wicked people!

They treated him as a liar. At last, the torment of the Day of Canopy overtook them, and it was the torment of an extremely dreadful day.

Before them the people of Noah also denied, and so did many a host after them. Every nation fell upon its Messenger to seize him: they all tried to defeat the Truth by means of falsehood, but, at last, I seized them. Then, just see, how severe was My punishment!

Translit: Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohin waalahzabu min baAAdihim wahammat kullu ommatin birasoolihim liyakhuthoohu wajadaloo bialbatili liyudhidoo bihi alhaqqa faakhathtuhum fakayfa kana AAiqabi

Translation:

Have they never traveled in the land that they could see the end of those who have gone before them? They were stronger than they in power and have left mightier traces in the land, but Allah seized them because of their sins and there was none to save them from Allah.

Translit: Awa lam yaseeroo fee alardi fayanthuroo kayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena kanoo min qablihim kanoo hum ashadda minhum quwwatan waatharan fee alardi faakhathahumu Allahu bithunoobihim wama kana lahum mina Allahi min waqin

Translation:

They met this doom because their Messengers came to them with clear Signs34 and they refused to believe in them. Consequently, Allah seized them. Indeed, He is Mighty and very stern in punishment.

Translit: Thalika biannahum kanat tateehim rusuluhum bialbayyinati fakafaroo faakhathahumu Allahu innahu qawiyyun shadeedu alAAiqabi

As for the Thamud, We presented before them the right way, but they preferred to remain blind rather than see the way. Consequently, a humiliating scourge overtook them all of a sudden on account of their misdeeds,

Translit: Waamma thamoodu fahadaynahum faistahabboo alAAama AAala alhuda faakhathathum saAAiqatu alAAathabi alhooni bima kanoo yaksiboona

We showed them Sign after Sign, each greater than the one preceding it, and We seized them with the torment that they might give up their attitude.

And (the advent or the Messenger) is also for those others who have not yet joined them. Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

(Then behold when) the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger, We seized him with a firm grip.

Translation:

O Prophet, your Lord knows that you sometimes stand in the Prayer nearly two-thirds of the night and sometimes half the night, and sometimes one-third of the night, and so does a group of your Companions. Allah alone keeps an account of the time of the day and night. He knows that you cannot compute the time precisely; so He has shown kindness to you. Now you may read as much of the Qur\'an as you easily can. He knows that there will be sick men among you, and some others who travel to seek Allah\'s bounty and yet others who fight in Allah\'s Way. Therefore, read as much of the Qur\'an as you may do with ease. Establish the salat and pay the zakat, and give to Allah a goodly loan. Whatever good you may send forward for yourselves, you shall find it with Allah. That is best and richest in reward. Seek forgiveness from Allah: indeed Allah is All-Forgiving, All-Merciful.

Translit: Inna rabbaka yaAAlamu annaka taqoomu adna min thuluthayi allayli wanisfahu wathuluthahu wataifatun mina allatheena maAAaka waAllahu yuqaddiru allayla waalnnahara AAalima an lan tuhsoohu fataba AAalaykum faiqraoo ma tayassara mina alqurani AAalima an sayakoonu minkum marda waakharoona yadriboona fee alardi yabtaghoona min fadli Allahi waakharoona yuqatiloona fee sabeeli Allahi faiqraoo ma tayassara minhu waaqeemoo alssalata waatoo alzzakata waaqridoo Allaha qardan hasanan wama tuqaddimoo lianfusi
