Translation:

Their condition may be described in a parable: a man kindled a fire and when it illuminated all around him, Allah took away the light from their eyes and left them in utter darkness, where they could not see anything.

Translit: Mathaluhum kamathali allathee istawqada naran falamma adaat ma hawlahu thahaba Allahu binoorihim watarakahum fee thulumatin la yubsiroona

Translation:

Well, Allah is not ashamed to cite the similitude of a gnat or of something even more insignificant than this. As for those who believe, they come to know from the same similitude that it is the Revelation from their Lord; but those who disbelieve, say, "What does Allah mean by such similitudes?" Allah leads astray many and guides many to the right way by the same thing. And He leads astray only those who disobey Allah;

Translit: Inna Allaha la yastahyee an yadriba mathalan ma baAAoodatan fama fawqaha faamma allatheena amanoo fayaAAlamoona annahu alhaqqu min rabbihim waamma allatheena kafaroo fayaqooloona matha arada Allahu bihatha mathalan yudillu bihi katheeran wayahdee bihi katheeran wama yudillu bihi illa alfasiqeena

Translation:

(Remember that) We caused the cloud to overshadow you and provided you with72 manna and salva73 for your food, saying, "Eat of the clean and pure things We have bestowed upon you" (In spite of this, your forefathers violated Our commands:) however, they did not harm Us but harmed only themselves.

Translit: Wathallalna AAalaykumu alghamama waanzalna AAalaykumu almanna waalssalwa kuloo min tayyibati ma razaqnakum wama thalamoona walakin kanoo anfusahum yathlimoona

Translation:

So We commanded, "Strike the corpse of the murdered man with a part of the sacrificed cow. See how Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His Signs, so that you may understand".

Translit: Faqulna idriboohu bibaAAdiha kathalika yuhyee Allahu almawta wayureekum ayatihi laAAallakum taAAqiloona

Translation:

The Jews say that the Christians have nothing (of the Truth) and the Christians say that the Jews have nothing of it, though both read the Scripture. And those who have no knowledge of the Scripture113 also make similar claims. Allah will surely give His judgement on the Day of Resurrection in all the matters in which they differ.

Translit: Waqalati alyahoodu laysati alnnasara AAala shayin waqalati alnnasara laysati alyahoodu AAala shayin wahum yatloona alkitaba kathalika qala allatheena la yaAAlamoona mithla qawlihim faAllahu yahkumu baynahum yawma alqiyamati feema kanoo feehi yakhtalifoona

Translation:

The ignorant people say, "Why does not Allah Himself talk to us or why does not a Sign come to us?" The people before them also talked like this, for all (who swerve from the Right Path) have the same mentality. We have already shown clear Signs to those who believe;

Translit: Waqala allatheena la yaAAlamoona lawla yukallimuna Allahu aw tateena ayatun kathalika qala allatheena min qablihim mithla qawlihim tashabahat quloobuhum qad bayyanna alayati liqawmin yooqinoona

Translation:

We had appointed the former qiblah towards which you used to turn your face merely to test who would follow the Messenger and who would turn back. It was indeed a hard test but not for those who had been blessed with Guidance from Allah. Allah will not let go to waste this faith of yours; rest assured that He is full of pity and mercy for mankind.

Translit: Wakathalika jaAAalnakum ommatan wasatan litakoonoo shuhadaa AAala alnnasi wayakoona alrrasoolu AAalaykum shaheedan wama jaAAalna alqiblata allatee kunta AAalayha illa linaAAlama man yattabiAAu alrrasoola mimman yanqalibu AAala AAaqibayhi wain kanat lakabeeratan illa AAala allatheena hada Allahu wama kana Allahu liyudeeAAa eemanakum inna Allaha bialnnasi laraoofun raheemun

Translation:

Then those who followed them will say, "Would that we were given another chance to return to the world: then we will disown them just as they have disowned us today.â€ Thus will Allah bring before them the deeds they did in the world in such a manner as to make them wring their hands in regret but they shall be unable to come out of the Fire.

Translit: Waqala allatheena ittabaAAoo law anna lana karratan fanatabarraa minhum kama tabarraoo minna kathalika yureehimu Allahu aAAmalahum hasaratin AAalayhim wama hum bikharijeena mina alnnari

Translation:

The mental condition of those who rejected the way of Allah may be likened to that of the cattle whom the shepherd calls but they hear nothing except the sound of shouts and cries.169 They are deaf, they are dumb, they are blind; therefore they do not understand anything.

Translit: Wamathalu allatheena kafaroo kamathali allathee yanAAiqu bima la yasmaAAu illa duAAaan wanidaan summun bukmun AAumyun fahum la yaAAqiloona

Translation:

It has been made lawful for you to go to your wives during the nights of the fast days. They are as a garment to you and you are as a garment to them. Though Allah knew that you were secretly dishonest to yourselves, He has pardoned your guilt and forgiven you. NOW you are permitted to have intercourse with your wives and enjoy what Allah has made lawful for you. You are also pemitted to eat and drink during the nights of the Fast months.192 until you can discern the white streak of dawn from the blackness of night. Then (abstain from all these things and) complete your fast till night-fall. But you should not have intercourse with your wives while you confine yourselves to mosques. These are the bounds set by Allah; so do nut go near them. In this way Allah makes His Commands clear to mankind. It is expected that they will guard themselves against wrong ways.

Translit: Ohilla lakum laylata alssiyami alrrafathu ila nisaikum hunna libasun lakum waantum libasun lahunna AAalima Allahu annakum kuntum takhtanoona anfusakum fataba AAalaykum waAAafa AAankum faalana bashiroohunna waibtaghoo ma kataba Allahu lakum wakuloo waishraboo hatta yatabayyana lakumu alkhaytu alabyadu mina alkhayti alaswadi mina alfajri thumma atimmoo alssiyama ila allayli wala tubashiroohunna waantum AAakifoona fee almasajidi tilka hudoodu Allahi fala taqrabooha kathalika yubayyinu Allahu ayatih

Translation:

Fight against them wherever they confront you in combat and drive them out from where they drove you out. Though killing is bad. persecution is worse than killing Do not fight against them near the Masjid Haram unless they attack you there. And if they attack you first (even in that sacred area), strike them (without any hesitation); this is the due punishment for such disbelievers.

Translit: Waoqtuloohum haythu thaqiftumoohum waakhrijoohum min haythu akhrajookum waalfitnatu ashaddu mina alqatli wala tuqatiloohum AAinda almasjidi alharami hatta yuqatilookum feehi fain qatalookum faoqtuloohum kathalika jazao alkafireena

Translation:

Do you think that you will enter Paradise without undergoing such trials as were experienced by the believers before you? They met with adversity and affliction and were so shaken by trials that the Prophet of the time and his followers cried out: "When will Allahs help come"? (Then they were comforted with the good tidings): "Yes, Allahs help is near."

Translit: Am hasibtum an tadkhuloo aljannata walamma yatikum mathalu allatheena khalaw min qablikum massathumu albasao waalddarrao wazulziloo hatta yaqoola alrrasoolu waallatheena amanoo maAAahu mata nasru Allahi ala inna nasra Allahi qareebun

They ask you about drinking and gambling. Say, "There is great harm in both, though there is some benefit also for the people. But the harm of the sin thereof is far greater than their benefit."

Translit: Yasaloonaka AAani alkhamri waalmaysiri qul feehima ithmun kabeerun wamanafiAAu lilnnasi waithmuhuma akbaru min nafAAihima wayasaloonaka matha yunfiqoona quli alAAafwa kathalika yubayyinu Allahu lakumu alayati laAAallakum tatafakkaroona

Thus Allah makes clear His commandments for you: it is expected that you will use your common sense.

Translation:

The charity of those who expend their wealth in the way of Allah may be likened to a grain of corn, which produces seven ears and each ear yields a hundred grains. Likewise Allah develops manifold the charity of anyone He pleases, for He is All-Embracing, All-Wise.

Translit: Mathalu allatheena yunfiqoona amwalahum fee sabeeli Allahi kamathali habbatin anbatat sabAAa sanabila fee kulli sunbulatin miatu habbatin waAllahu yudaAAifu liman yashao waAllahu wasiAAun AAaleemun

Translation:

O Believers, do not spoil your charity by taunts and injury to the recipients like the one who practises charity to be seen by men, while he neither believes in Allah nor in the Last Day. His charity may be likened to the rainfall on a rock which had only a thin layer of soil upon it. When heavy rain fell on it, the whole of the soil washed away and the rock was left bare Such people do not gain the reward they imagine they have earned by their seeming charity; Allah does not show the Right Way to the ungrateful.

Translit: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo la tubtiloo sadaqatikum bialmanni waalatha kaallathee yunfiqu malahu riaa alnnasi wala yuminu biAllahi waalyawmi alakhiri famathaluhu kamathali safwanin AAalayhi turabun faasabahu wabilun fatarakahu saldan la yaqdiroona AAala shayin mimma kasaboo waAllahu la yahdee alqawma alkafireena

Translation:

In contrast to them, the charity of those, who expend their wealth sincerely with the sole desire of pleasing Allah, may be likened to a garden on a plateau. If heavy rain falls, it yields its produce twofold: and even if there is no heavy rain but only a light shower, that too, is sufficient for it: whatever you do is in the sight of Allah.

Translit: Wamathalu allatheena yunfiqoona amwalahumu ibtighaa mardati Allahi watathbeetan min anfusihim kamathali jannatin birabwatin asabaha wabilun faatat okulaha diAAfayni fain lam yusibha wabilun fatallun waAllahu bima taAAmaloona baseerun

Translation:

Would anyone of you wish that he should have a green garden of palm trees and vines, watered by canals and laden with all sorts of fruit and then it should be consumed by a fiery whirlwind at the very time when he himself has grown very old and his small children are too feeble to earn anything?307 Thus Allah makes His revelations clear and plain to you that you may ponder over them.

Translit: Ayawaddu ahadukum an takoona lahu jannatun min nakheelin waaAAnabin tajree min tahtiha alanharu lahu feeha min kulli alththamarati waasabahu alkibaru walahu thurriyyatun duAAafao faasabaha iAAsarun feehi narun faihtaraqat kathalika yubayyinu Allahu lakumu alayati laAAallakum tatafakkaroona

Zacharias said, "Lord, how shall I beget a son now that I have grown very old and my wife is barren?" "Thus will it be,â€40 was the answer. "Allah does whatever He wills."

Hearing this, Mary said, "How, O Lord, shall I have a son, when no man has ever touched me?" "Thus shall it be," was the answer. Allah creates whatever He wills. When He decrees a thing, He only says, "Be" and it is.

In the sight of Allah, the case of the birth of Jesus is like that of Adam, whom He created out of dust and said, "Be", and he was.

Translation:

Hold fast together to Allahs cord and Iet nothing divide you. Remember the favour of Allah upon you, when you were enemies to one another, then He united your hearts, and by His grace, you became like brothers, and you were on the brink of the abyss of Fire and He rescued you from it. Thus does Allah make His signs clear to you so that you may find the right path to true success by these.

Translit: WaiAAtasimoo bihabli Allahi jameeAAan wala tafarraqoo waothkuroo niAAmata Allahi AAalaykum ith kuntum aAAdaan faallafa bayna quloobikum faasbahtum biniAAmatihi ikhwanan wakuntum AAala shafa hufratin mina alnnari faanqathakum minha kathalika yubayyinu Allahu lakum ayatihi laAAallakum tahtadoona

Translation:

Whatever they are spending in this worldly life may be likened to the wind that brings frost in it and smites and destroys totally the tillage of those who have been unjust to themselves; Allah has not done any injustice to them but in fact they themselves are doing injustice to themselves.

Translit: Mathalu ma yunfiqoona fee hathihi alhayati alddunya kamathali reehin feeha sirrun asabat hartha qawmin thalamoo anfusahum faahlakathu wama thalamahumu Allahu walakin anfusahum yathlimoona

Translation:

These are the limits prescribed by Allah: whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, He will admit him into the Gardens underneath which canals flow, wherein he will abide for ever; this is the great success.

Translit: Tilka hudoodu Allahi waman yutiAAi Allaha warasoolahu yudkhilhu jannatin tajree min tahtiha alanharu khalideena feeha wathalika alfawzu alAAatheemu

Translation:

O Believers, when you go to Jihad in the way of Allah, discern between friend and foe; and if one greets you with a salutation of peace, do not say to him abruptly, "You are not a believer." If you seek worldly gain by this, Allah has abundant spoils for you. (Remember that) you yourselves were before this in the same condition; then Allah showed His grace on you; therefore you should discern well, for Allah is fully aware of what you do.

Translit: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo itha darabtum fee sabeeli Allahi fatabayyanoo wala taqooloo liman alqa ilaykumu alssalama lasta muminan tabtaghoona AAarada alhayati alddunya faAAinda Allahi maghanimu katheeratun kathalika kuntum min qablu famanna Allahu AAalaykum fatabayyanoo inna Allaha kana bima taAAmaloona khabeeran

Allah will never forgive those who have thus adopted the way of disbelief and rebellion and committed gross injustice and iniquity, and He will not show them any other way

Translit: Inna allatheena kafaroo wathalamoo lam yakuni Allahu liyaghfira lahum wala liyahdiyahum tareeqan

I would rather prefer that you should bear the burden of my sin as well as of your own sin, and become a dweller of hell; this is the just retribution of the iniquity of the aggressors."

And, for these words of theirs, Allah rewarded them with the Gardens underneath which canals flow, wherein they will live for ever. This is the reward of the righteous people.

Translation:

Allah does not take you to task for the inadvertent oaths you swear, but He will surely call you to account for the intentional and deliberate oaths you make. The expiation (of breaking such an oath) is to feed ten indigent persons with the normal food you serve in your own family, or to give them clothes, or to free one slave, and the one who cannot afford any of these let him fast three days. This is the expiation of breaking the solemn oaths you have taken; be mindful of your oaths. Thus Allah makes His Commandments plain to you so that you may show gratitude.

Translit: La yuakhithukumu Allahu biallaghwi fee aymanikum walakin yuakhithukum bima AAaqqadtumu alaymana fakaffaratuhu itAAamu AAasharati masakeena min awsati ma tutAAimoona ahleekum aw kiswatuhum aw tahreeru raqabatin faman lam yajid fasiyamu thalathati ayyamin thalika kaffaratu aymanikum itha halaftum waihfathoo aymanakum kathalika yubayyinu Allahu lakum ayatihi laAAallakum tashkuroona

Translation:

He, who will be delivered from the torment of that Day, will have received Allahs mercy, and this is a great success.

Translit: Man yusraf AAanhu yawmaithin faqad rahimahu wathalika alfawzu almubeenu

Translation:

As a matter of fact, in this way We have made some of them a means for testing the others, so that, seeing them, they should say, "Are these the people from among us upon whom Allah has showered His blessings?" Yes: does not Allah know His grateful servants better than they?

Translit: Wakathalika fatanna baAAdahum bibaAAdin liyaqooloo ahaolai manna Allahu AAalayhim min baynina alaysa Allahu biaAAlama bialshshakireena

In this way, We make Our Signs clear and plain so as to expose the way of the guilty ones.

And We showed to Abraham the phenomena of the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth in the manner (that follows) so that he may become one of the firm believers.

Then We bestowed upon Abraham descendants like Isaac and Jacob, and showed each of them the Right Way, (the same Right Way that) We had shown to Noah before them; and (We bestowed Guidance upon ) David, Solomon, Job, Joseph, Moses and Aaron from among his descendants. Thus, We reward the righteous people for their good deeds.

Translit: wa wahabna lahu ishaqa wa yaAAqooba kullan hadayna wa noohan hadayna min qablu wamin thurriyyatihi dawooda wa sulaymana wa ayyooba wa yoosufa wa moosa wa haroona wa kathalika najzee almuhsineena

Thus do We state Our Revelations over and over again indifferent ways so that the disbelievers might say, "You have learned these (not from Allah but) from someone else;" and so that We may make the Reality plain to those who have knowledge.

Translit: Wakathalika nusarrifu alayati waliyaqooloo darasta walinubayyinahu liqawmin yaAAlamoona

Translation:

And (O Believers), do not revile those whom they invoke besides Allah lest they should, in their ignorance, revile Allah (besides committing shirk). We have thus made the deeds of every people seem fair to them. Ultimately, they shall have to return to their Lord; then He will let them know what they have been doing.

Translit: Wala tasubboo allatheena yadAAoona min dooni Allahi fayasubboo Allaha AAadwan bighayri AAilmin kathalika zayyanna likulli ommatin AAamalahum thumma ila rabbihim marjiAAuhum fayunabbiohum bima kanoo yaAAmaloona

Translation:

And so have we always set against every Prophet enemies from among satans of men and satans of jinns who have been inspiring one another with charming things in order to delude the minds. But, had your Lord willed, they would never have done so. So leave them alone to continue their false allegations.

Translit: Wakathalika jaAAalna likulli nabiyyin AAaduwwan shayateena alinsi waaljinni yoohee baAAduhum ila baAAdin zukhrufa alqawli ghurooran walaw shaa rabbuka ma faAAaloohu fatharhum wama yaftaroona

Translation:

Can that person, who was first dead, then We gave him life and bestowed upon him the light by which he is able to walk on the right way among the people, be regarded like the one who is blundering about in deep darkness and will not come out of it? Thus have been made seem fair to the disbelievers their deeds

Translit: Awa man kana maytan faahyaynahu wajaAAalna lahu nooran yamshee bihi fee alnnasi kaman mathaluhu fee alththulumati laysa bikharijin minha kathalika zuyyina lilkafireena ma kanoo yaAAmaloona

Translation:

and thus have We placed in every habitation the ringleaders of the wicked people to spread the snare of their vile schemes; in fact, they themselves get entangled in the snare of their vile devices but they do not perceive it.

Translit: Wakathalika jaAAalna fee kulli qaryatin akabira mujrimeeha liyamkuroo feeha wama yamkuroona illa bianfusihim wama yashAAuroona

Translation:

So (the fact is that) whomsoever Allah wills to guide aright, He makes his breast wide open to Islam, and whomsoever He wills to let go astray, He makes his breast narrow and squeezes it so tight that (at the very idea of Islam) he begins to feel as if his soul were climbing up towards the sky. Thus Allah sets the impurity (caused by their deviation from the Way of Islam) over those who do not believe,

Translit: Faman yuridi Allahu an yahdiyahu yashrah sadrahu lilislami waman yurid an yudillahu yajAAal sadrahu dayyiqan harajan kaannama yassaAAAAadu fee alssamai kathalika yajAAalu Allahu alrrijsa AAala allatheena la yuminoona

Behold, in this way We will make (in the Hereafter) the wrongdoers the comrades of one another because of what they earned (in the world with mutual co-operation).

Translit: Wakathalika nuwallee baAAda alththalimeena baAAdan bima kanoo yaksiboona

And likewise, those whom the mushrikin believe to have a share in Allahs Godhead have made the killing of their own children seem fair to them in order to lead them to ruin and confuse them in their religion. Had Allah willed, they would not have done so; therefore, leave them busy in their false accusations.

Translit: Wakathalika zayyana likatheerin mina almushrikeena qatla awladihim shurakaohum liyurdoohum waliyalbisoo AAalayhim deenahum walaw shaa Allahu ma faAAaloohu fatharhum wama yaftaroona

Translit: Sayaqoolu allatheena ashrakoo law shaa Allahu ma ashrakna wala abaona wala harramna min shayin kathalika kaththaba allatheena min qablihim hatta thaqoo basana qul hal AAindakum min AAilmin fatukhrijoohu lana in tattabiAAoona illa alththanna wain antum illa takhrusoona

Translation:

O Muhammad, ask them, "Who has forbidden the decent garments that Allah brought forth for His "servants and (Who has forbidden) the good and pure things of life bestowed by Him?" Say, "All these things are for the Believers in this world but on the Day of Resurrection, these shall be exclusively for them." Thus We make quite plain Our Revelations to those who possess knowledge.

Translit: Qul man harrama zeenata Allahi allatee akhraja liAAibadihi waalttayyibati mina alrrizqi qul hiya lillatheena amanoo fee alhayati alddunya khalisatan yawma alqiyamati kathalika nufassilu alayati liqawmin yaAAlamoona

Translation:

Believe it that the doors of heaven will not be opened for those who have treated Our Revelations as false and have shown pride in regard to them: their admission into Paradise is as impossible as the passing of the camel through the eye of the needle, so do We recompense the guilty ones.

Translit: Inna allatheena kaththaboo biayatina waistakbaroo AAanha la tufattahu lahum abwabu alssamai wala yadkhuloona aljannata hatta yalija aljamalu fee sammi alkhiyati wakathalika najzee almujrimeena

Translation:

Hell shall be their bed and Hell shall be their covering: this is the chastisement We award to the workers of iniquity.

Translit: Lahum min jahannama mihadun wamin fawqihim ghawashin wakathalika najzee alththalimeena

Translation:

And it is Allah, Who sends winds as harbingers of the good tidings of His mercy; when they gather up heavy clouds He drives them on to some dead land, and makes the rain fall upon it and brings forth many kinds of fruit (from the same dead land). Look! This is how We bring forth the dead from the state of death; it may be that you learn a lesson from this observation.

Translit: Wahuwa allathee yursilu alrriyaha bushran bayna yaday rahmatihi hatta itha aqallat sahaban thiqalan suqnahu libaladin mayyitin faanzalna bihi almaa faakhrajna bihi min kulli alththamarati kathalika nukhriju almawta laAAallakum tathakkaroona

Translation:

The soil which is rich, yields rich produce by Allahs permission and the soil which is poor yields nothing but poor produce.46 Thus We present Our Signs over and over again for those people who intend to be grateful.

Translit: Waalbaladu alttayyibu yakhruju nabatuhu biithni rabbihi waallathee khabutha la yakhruju illa nakidan kathalika nusarrifu alayati liqawmin yashkuroona

Translation:

These people whose stories We recount to you (can serve as examples to you). Their Messengers came to them with clear Signs, but they would not believe in what they had once denied. Behold, this is how We seal the hearts of the disbelievers.

Translit: Tilka alqura naqussu AAalayka min anbaiha walaqad jaathum rusuluhum bialbayyinati fama kanoo liyuminoo bima kaththaboo min qablu kathalika yatbaAAu Allahu AAala quloobi alkafireena

Then after the (above mentioned) communities, We sent Moses with Our Signs to Pharaoh and the chiefs of his nation,83 but they also treated Our Signs unjustly.84 Then behold, what happened in the end to the mischief-makers.

Translit: Thumma baAAathna min baAAdihim moosa biayatina ila firAAawna wamalaihi fathalamoo biha faonuthur kayfa kana AAaqibatu almufsideena

Translation:

(In response to this Allah said,) "Allahs wrath shall surely overtake those who made the calf a god, and they shall be abased in the life of this world, that is how We punish those who invent falsehood.

Translit: Inna allatheena ittakhathoo alAAijla sayanaluhum ghadabun min rabbihim wathillatun fee alhayati alddunya wakathalika najzee almuftareena

Translation:

And We had divided them into twelve clams and made them distinct Communities. When his people asked him tar water. We inspired Moses to strike a certain rack with his staff. Consequently, twelve springs gushed forth from it and each community specified its drinking place: We caused the cloud to cast shadow over them, and We sent down manna and salva for their food. saying. "Eat of the clean and pure things We have provided for you." However, by doing what they did afterwards, they did no wrong to Us but they wronged themselves.

Translit: WaqattaAAnahumu ithnatay AAashrata asbatan omaman waawhayna ila moosa ithi istasqahu qawmuhu ani idrib biAAasaka alhajara fainbajasat minhu ithnata AAashrata AAaynan qad AAalima kullu onasin mashrabahum wathallalna AAalayhimu alghamama waanzalna AAalayhimu almanna waalssalwa kuloo min tayyibati ma razaqnakum wama thalamoona walakin kanoo anfusahum yathlimoona

Translation:

And ask them about the township which was situated on the sea shore. Remind them of what befell its people who used to break the Sabbath (Saturday). Each Sabbath-day the fish appeared in abundance before them on the surface of the water but did not appear at all on other days than Sabbath. This was because We were putting them to test on account of the acts of disobedience they did.

Translit: Waisalhum AAani alqaryati allatee kanat hadirata albahri ith yaAAdoona fee alssabti ith tateehim heetanuhum yawma sabtihim shurraAAan wayawma la yasbitoona la tateehim kathalika nabloohum bima kanoo yafsuqoona

Translation:

Behold, this is how We make Our Signs clear so that these people return to the right way.

Translit: Wakathalika nufassilu alayati walaAAallahum yarjiAAoona

Translation:

If We had willed We would have exalted him by means of those revelations, but he clung on to the earth and followed his own lusts. Therefore he began to behave like a dog: it lolls out its tongue if you chase it away and it lolls out its tongue if you leave it alone. Such is the likeness of those who treat Our Revelations as false.

Translit: Walaw shina larafaAAnahu biha walakinnahu akhlada ila alardi waittabaAAa hawahu famathaluhu kamathali alkalbi in tahmil AAalayhi yalhath aw tatrukhu yalhath thalika mathalu alqawmi allatheena kaththaboo biayatina faoqsusi alqasasa laAAallahum yatafakkaroona

Translation:

You should go on relating these stories to them: it may be that they consider them seriously. Very bad is the example of those who treated Our Revelations as false and they have been doing wrong to their own selves.

Translit: Saa mathalan alqawmu allatheena kaththaboo biayatina waanfusahum kanoo yathlimoona

Translation:

Then Allah sent down His sakinat (peace and tranquility) upon His Messenger and the Believers and sent (to your aid) forces which you could not see and chastised those who denied the Truth: for this is the due recompense of those who deny the Truth.

Translit: Thumma anzala Allahu sakeenatahu AAala rasoolihi waAAala almumineena waanzala junoodan lam tarawha waAAaththaba allatheena kafaroo wathalika jazao alkafireena

Translation:

Indeed Allah has bought from the Believers their persons and their possessions in return for the Gardens;106 they fight in the Way of Allah, kill and are killed. This promise (of the Gardens) is the true pledge of Allah made in the Torah, the Gospel, and the Quran, and who is more true in fulfilling his promise than Allah? So rejoice in the bargain you have made with Him; and this is the greatest success.

Translit: Inna Allaha ishtara mina almumineena anfusahum waamwalahum bianna lahumu aljannata yuqatiloona fee sabeeli Allahi fayaqtuloona wayuqtaloona waAAdan AAalayhi haqqan fee alttawrati waalinjeeli waalqurani waman awfa biAAahdihi mina Allahi faistabshiroo bibayAAikumu allathee bayaAAtum bihi wathalika huwa alfawzu alAAatheemu

Translation:

Strange is the behavior of man! When he is in affliction, he calls Us, standing or sitting or lying down, but when We remove his affliction from him, he behaves as if he had never called Us at the time when affliction came upon him. Thus the evil deeds of such transgressors have been made seeming fair to them.

Translit: Waitha massa alinsana alddurru daAAana lijanbihi aw qaAAidan aw qaiman falamma kashafna AAanhu durrahu marra kaan lam yadAAuna ila durrin massahu kathalika zuyyina lilmusrifeena ma kanoo yaAAmaloona

Translation:

O mankind, We destroyed before you those communities (which were in power in their time,) when they adopted the attitude of transgression, for their Messengers came to them with clear signs but they would not believe in them. This is how We recompense the criminals for their crimes.

Translit: Walaqad ahlakna alquroona min qablikum lamma thalamoo wajaathum rusuluhum bialbayyinati wama kanoo liyuminoo kathalika najzee alqawma almujrimeena

Translation:

This worldly life (which has so enamored you that you have become neglectful of Our Signs) may be likened to the produce of the earth: We sent rain-water from the sky, and the crops of which man and animals eat, grew up luxuriantly. Then at that very time, when the land was at its best, and the crops had ripened and decked out and the owners were presuming that they would be able to benefit from them, Our Command came all of a sudden by night or by day, and We destroyed it so thoroughly as though nothing had existed there the previous day. Thus We expound Our Signs in detail for the consideration of those people who are thoughtful.

Translit: Innama mathalu alhayati alddunya kamain anzalnahu mina alssamai faikhtalata bihi nabatu alardi mimma yakulu alnnasu waalanAAamu hatta itha akhathati alardu zukhrufaha waizzayyanat wathanna ahluha annahum qadiroona AAalayha ataha amruna laylan aw naharan fajaAAalnaha haseedan kaan lam taghna bialamsi kathalika nufassilu alayati liqawmin yatafakkaroona

Translation:

The same Allah is your true Lord: then, what remains there after the Truth except deviation? Well, whither are you being turned away?"

Translit: Fathalikumu Allahu rabbukumu alhaqqu famatha baAAda alhaqqi illa alddalalu faanna tusrafoona

Translation:

O Prophet, behold! thus has the Word of your Lord come true in regard to the evil-doers that they would not believe.

Translit: Kathalika haqqat kalimatu rabbika AAala allatheena fasaqoo annahum la yuminoona

Translation:

The fact is that they have denied (on mere conjecture) what was not within the reach of their knowledge nor had they, as yet, tasted its consequences. Likewise, the people who went before them declared as false the Revelations, but behold, what was the end of those unjust people!

Translit: Bal kaththaboo bima lam yuheetoo biAAilmihi walamma yatihim taweeluhu kathalika kaththaba allatheena min qablihim faonthur kayfa kana AAaqibatu alththalimeena

Translation:

After Noah We sent different Messengers to their peoples and they came to them with manifest Signs, but they would not believe in what they had disbelieved before. This is how We set a seal on the hearts of the transgressors.

Translit: Thumma baAAathna min baAAdihi rusulan ila qawmihim fajaoohum bialbayyinati fama kanoo liyuminoo bima kaththaboo bihi min qablu kathalika natbaAAu AAala quloobi almuAAtadeena

Translation:

Then, (when such a time comes), We deliver Our Messengers and those who believed in them-This is Our Way: We have laid it on Ourselves to deliver the believers.

Translit: Thumma nunajjee rusulana waallatheena amanoo kathalika haqqan AAalayna nunjee almumineena

Translation:

These two groups may be likened to two men, one of whom is blind and deaf, and the other can see and hear. Can they be alike and equal? Do you not learn a lesson( from this example)?

Translit: Mathalu alfareeqayni kaalaAAma waalasammi waalbaseeri waalssameeAAi hal yastawiyani mathalan afala tathakkaroona

Translation:

And when your Lord seizes a sinful town, He seizes it like this: indeed His seizure is very terrible and painful.

Translit: Wakathalika akhthu rabbika itha akhatha alqura wahiya thalimatun inna akhthahu aleemun shadeedun

Translation:

In fact, there is a Sign in this for everyone who dreads the Torment of the Hereafter: that will be the Day when all the people shall gather together and will witness everything that will happen there.

Translit: Inna fee thalika laayatan liman khafa AAathaba alakhirati thalika yawmun majmooAAun lahu alnnasu wathalika yawmun mashhoodun

Translation:

And it will happen so (as you have seen in your dream) that your Lord will choose you (for His work ) and impart you the full understanding of problems, and will perfect His blessing upon you and upon the children of Jacob as He perfected it on your forefathers- Abraham and Isaac; surely your Lord is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

Translit: Wakathalika yajtabeeka rabbuka wayuAAallimuka min taweeli alahadeethi wayutimmu niAAmatahu AAalayka waAAala ali yaAAqooba kama atammaha AAala abawayka min qablu ibraheema waishaqa inna rabbaka AAaleemun hakeemun

Translation:

The person who bought him in Egypt said to his wife, "Deal kindly with him: maybe he proves useful to us, or we may adopt him as our son." Thus We made a way for establishing Joseph in the land and arranged to teach him the understanding of affairs. Allah does whatever He wills but most people do not understand this.

Translit: Waqala allathee ishtarahu min misra liimraatihi akrimee mathwahu AAasa an yanfaAAana aw nattakhithahu waladan wakathalika makkanna liyoosufa fee alardi walinuAAallimahu min taweeli alahadeethi waAllahu ghalibun AAala amrihi walakinna akthara alnnasi la yaAAlamoona

Translation:

And when he reached his full maturity, We bestowed on him judgment and knowledge. This is how We reward the righteous people.

Translit: Walamma balagha ashuddahu ataynahu hukman waAAilman wakathalika najzee almuhsineena

Translation:

She advanced towards him, and he also would have advanced towards her, had he not perceived his Lords argument. This was so that We may remove indecency and immodesty from him;23 indeed he was one of Our chosen servants.

Translit: Walaqad hammat bihi wahamma biha lawla an raa burhana rabbihi kathalika linasrifa AAanhu alssooa waalfahshaa innahu min AAibadina almukhlaseena

Translation:

She said, "Well, this is he concerning whom you blamed me. No doubt, I sought to seduce him and he escaped. Yet if he does not yield to my bidding, he shall be cast into prison, and shall be humbled and disgraced."

Translit: Qalat fathalikunna allathee lumtunnanee feehi walaqad rawadtuhu AAan nafsihi faistAAsama walain lam yafAAal ma amuruhu layusjananna walayakoonan mina alssaghireena

Translation:

Thus did We give power to Joseph in the land: he had every right to take possession of any piece of it that he desired. We bestow Our bounty upon anyone We will. We do not let go waste the reward of the righteous people;

Translit: Wakathalika makanna liyoosufa fee alardi yatabawwao minha haythu yashao nuseebu birahmatina man nashao wala nudeeAAu ajra almuhsineena

Translation:

They replied, "His punishment should be that he himself be made a bondsman, if the thing is found in his pack. At home we punish such offenders like this."

Translit: Qaloo jazaohu man wujida fee rahlihi fahuwa jazaohu kathalika najzee alththalimeena

Translation:

Then Joseph first began to search the packs of his step-brothers before searching the pack of his own brother. At last he took it out from the pack of his brother. Thus We supported Joseph with Our plan: or it did not behoove Joseph to seize his brother (by the kings law) except that Allah willed it so. We raise high the ranks of those We will, and there is the One Whose knowledge is far greater than the knowledge of all others.

Translit: Fabadaa biawAAiyatihim qabla wiAAai akheehi thumma istakhrajaha min wiAAai akheehi kathalika kidna liyoosufa ma kana liyakhutha akhahu fee deeni almaliki illa an yashaa Allahu narfaAAu darajatin man nashao wafawqa kulli thee AAilmin AAaleemun

Translation:

Joseph replied, "God forbid that we should seize any other than the one with whom we have found our property: for, if we do this, we shall be unjust."

Translit: Qala maAAatha Allahi an nakhutha illa man wajadna mataAAana AAindahu inna ithan lathalimoona

Translation:

Allah sent down water from the sky and every system carried it along according to its capacity: then there was flood and a swelling foam came to the surface. Likewise there arises a scum out of the metals which are melted in the furnace for making ornaments and utensils. By such similitudes, Allah makes the truth distinct from falsehood. That which is the foam vanishes and that which is beneficial for the people remains on the earth. In this way Allah cites similes to make His Message clear.

Translit: Anzala mina alssamai maan fasalat awdiyatun biqadariha faihtamala alssaylu zabadan rabiyan wamimma yooqidoona AAalayhi fee alnnari ibtighaa hilyatin aw mataAAin zabadun mithluhu kathalika yadribu Allahu alhaqqa waalbatila faamma alzzabadu fayathhabu jufaan waamma ma yanfaAAu alnnasa fayamkuthu fee alardi kathalika yadribu Allahu alamthala

Translation:

O Muhammad ! We have sent you as a Messenger in this way among a people before whom many peoples have passed away so that you should recite to them the Message which We have sent down to you; yet they are rejecting the most Compassionate Lord. Say to them, "My Lord is He: there is no deity but He: I have placed my full trust in Him and He is my sole Resort."

Translit: Kathalika arsalnaka fee ommatin qad khalat min qabliha omamun litatluwa AAalayhimu allathee awhayna ilayka wahum yakfuroona bialrrahmani qul huwa rabbee la ilaha illa huwa AAalayhi tawakkaltu wailayhi matabi

Translation:

As regards the Paradise which the God fearing have been promised it is like this: canals flow beneath it, its fruits are eternal and its shade is perpetual. Such is the reward of the righteous but the reward of the disbelievers is the tire of Hell.

Translit: Mathalu aljannati allatee wuAAida almuttaqoona tajree min tahtiha alanharu okuluha daimun wathilluha tilka AAuqba allatheena ittaqaw waAAuqba alkafireena alnnaru

Translation:

It is with this instruction that We have sent this Command in Arabic to you. Now if you follow the desires and lusts of the people in spite of the knowledge you have received there shall be none to defend you nor to protect you against Allah.

Translit: Wakathalika anzalnahu hukman AAarabiyyan walaini ittabaAAta ahwaahum baAAda ma jaaka mina alAAilmi ma laka mina Allahi min waliyyin wala waqin

Translation:

The works of those who disbelieved may be likened, to the ashes which the wind scatters on a stormy day. They shall not be able to gain anything from what they did. This is the extreme deviation.

Translit: Mathalu allatheena kafaroo birabbihim aAAmaluhum karamadin ishtaddat bihi alrreehu fee yawmin AAasifin la yaqdiroona mimma kasaboo AAala shayin thalika huwa alddalalu albaAAeedu

Translation:

Do you not see to what Allah has likened the Pure Word? It is like a good tree which has got deep roots into the earth and whose branches have spread high up into heaven.

Translit: Alam tara kayfa daraba Allahu mathalan kalimatan tayyibatan kashajaratin tayyibatin asluha thabitun wafarAAuha fee alssamai

Translation:

Allah cites these parables for the benefit of people so that they learn a lesson from them. And an evil word may be likened to an evil tree; which is torn out from the earth and has no stability.

Translit: Wamathalu kalimatin khabeethatin kashajaratin khabeethatin ijtuththat min fawqi alardi ma laha min qararin

Translation:

It is He Who fulfilled all your requirements; so much so that you cannot count His bounties, if you tried to number them. The fact is that man is very unjust and ungrateful.

Translit: Waatakum min kulli ma saaltumoohu wain taAAuddoo niAAmata Allahi la tuhsooha inna alinsana lathaloomun kaffarun

Though We cause it (Admonition) to enter into their hearts (like a rod),

Translit: Kathalika naslukuhu fee quloobi almujrimeena

Even if We had opened a gate for them in heaven, and they had begun to ascend through it higher during day time,

As the people of Al Aikah were unjust,

Translit: Wain kana ashabu alaykati lathalimeena

Translation:

There will be gardens for their permanent residence into which they will enter: canals will be flowing underneath them: above all, they will find there everything as they would desire: this is the reward for those pious people

Translit: Jannatu AAadnin yadkhuloonaha tajree min tahtiha alanharu lahum feeha ma yashaoona kathalika yajzee Allahu almuttaqeena

Translation:

O Muhammad! are these people still waiting, though now nothing has been left but that angels should come or your Lords judgment be passed on them? Many people before them behaved audaciously like them, and had to take the consequence: it was not Allah Who was unjust to them but they were unjust to themselves.

Translit: Hal yanthuroona illa an tatiyahumu almalaikatu aw yatiya amru rabbika kathalika faAAala allatheena min qablihim wama thalamahumu Allahu walakin kanoo anfusahum yathlimoona

Translation:

The mushriks say, "Had Allah willed, neither we nor our forefathers would have worshiped any other than Allah nor made anything unlawful without His will." Such excuses were put forward also by those who went before them. Have the Messengers any more responsibility than to convey the Message clearly?

Translit: Waqala allatheena ashrakoo law shaa Allahu ma AAabadna min doonihi min shayin nahnu wala abaona wala harramna min doonihi min shayin kathalika faAAala allatheena min qablihim fahal AAala alrrusuli illa albalaghu almubeenu

Translation:

Bad attributes should be ascribed to those who do not believe in the Hereafter. As regards Allah, all excellences are for Him; for He is the All-Powerful, the All Wise.

Translit: Lillatheena la yuminoona bialakhirati mathalu alssawi walillahi almathalu alaAAla wahuwa alAAazeezu alhakeemu

Translation:

Allah cites a similitude (of two men): one of them is a slave, who is owned by another and has no power over anything. There is the other man whom We Ourselves have provided with a fair provision from which he freely spends openly and secretly. (Ask them): "Are these two men equal?"May God be praised! But most people do not understand (this simple thing).

Translit: Daraba Allahu mathalan AAabdan mamlookan la yaqdiru AAala shayin waman razaqnahu minna rizqan hasanan fahuwa yunfiqu minhu sirran wajahran hal yastawoona alhamdu lillahi bal aktharuhum la yaAAlamoona

Translation:

Allah cites another similitude of two men. One of them is dumb and deaf and cannot do any work, and has become a burden upon his master; wherever he dispatches him, he does nothing useful. There is the other one, who enjoins justice and follows the Right Way. (Ask them): "Are these two men equal?"

Translit: Wadaraba Allahu mathalan rajulayni ahaduhuma abkamu la yaqdiru AAala shayin wahuwa kallun AAala mawlahu aynama yuwajjihhu la yati bikhayrin hal yastawee huwa waman yamuru bialAAadli wahuwa AAala siratin mustaqeemin

Translit: WaAllahu jaAAala lakum mimma khalaqa thilalan wajaAAala lakum mina aljibali aknanan wajaAAala lakum sarabeela taqeekumu alharra wasarabeela taqeekum basakum kathalika yutimmu niAAmatahu AAalaykum laAAallakum tuslimoona

Translation:

Allah cites the instance of a habitation: it was enjoying a life of peace and security and was receiving its provisions in abundance from every quarter. Hut when it began to show ingratitude towards the favors of Allah, He made its inhabitants taste the consequences of their doings, and inflicted misfortunes of hunger and fear on them.

Translit: Wadaraba Allahu mathalan qaryatan kanat aminatan mutmainnatan yateeha rizquha raghadan min kulli makanin fakafarat bianAAumi Allahi faathaqaha Allahu libasa aljooAAi waalkhawfi bima kanoo yasnaAAoona

Translation:

And nothing has hindered Us from sending Signs except that the former people refused to acknowledge them as such. (For example,) We sent the She-camel as an open Sign to Thamud but they treated her with cruelty; whereas We send Signs only by way of warning.

Translit: Wama manaAAana an nursila bialayati illa an kaththaba biha alawwaloona waatayna thamooda alnnaqata mubsiratan fathalamoo biha wama nursilu bialayati illa takhweefan

In this Qur'an, We employed different ways to make the people understand the Message, but the majority of them persisted in unbelief,

Translit: Walaqad sarrafna lilnnasi fee hatha alqurani min kulli mathalin faaba aktharu alnnasi illa kufooran

Translation:

And in the same miraculous way We raised them up again so that they may ask one another (about their wonderful experience). One of them asked, "Well, how long have you remained in this condition?â€ The others answered, "May-be, we have remained so for a day or a part of a day.â€ Then they declared, "Your Lord knows best how long we have remained in this condition. So let us send one of us with this silver coin to the city, and he should look for a place wherein he can get the best food so that he may bring something to eat. He should, however, conduct himself with caution lest anyone should discover our whereabouts;

Translit: Wakathalika baAAathnahum liyatasaaloo baynahum qala qailun minhum kam labithtum qaloo labithna yawman aw baAAda yawmin qaloo rabbukum aAAlamu bima labithtum faibAAathoo ahadakum biwariqikum hathihi ila almadeenati falyanthur ayyuha azka taAAaman falyatikum birizqin minhu walyatalattaf wala yushAAiranna bikum ahadan

Translation:

In this way We revealed their secret to the people of the city so that they should know that Allah's promise is true and that there is no doubt about (the coming of) the Hour of Resurrection. (But it is a pity that instead of considering this aspect of the matter) they were at that time disputing among themselves with regard to them (the Sleepers of the Cave). Some of them said, "Let us build a wall against them, for then Lord alone knows best about themâ€ But those people who prevailed in their matter, said, "We will build a place of worship as a memorial for them"

Translit: Wakathalika aAAtharna AAalayhim liyaAAlamoo anna waAAda Allahi haqqun waanna alsaAAata la rayba feeha ith yatanazaAAoona baynahum amrahum faqaloo ibnoo AAalayhim bunyanan rabbuhum aAAlamu bihim qala allatheena ghalaboo AAala amrihim lanattakhithanna AAalayhim masjidan

Translation:

O Muhammad, present a parable36 before them. There were two persons; to one of those We gave two gardens of vine and surrounded them with a fence of date-palm trees and We kept a piece of land between them for cultivation.

Translit: Waidrib lahum mathalan rajulayni jaAAalna liahadihima jannatayni min aAAnabin wahafafnahuma binakhlin wajaAAalna baynahuma zarAAan

And O Prophet, bring home to them the reality of this worldly life by a parable. It is like the vegetation of the earth that flourished luxuriantly when We sent down rain water from the sky, but afterwards the same vegetation was turned into chaff, which is blown away by the wind: Allah has power over everything.

Translit: Waidrib lahum mathala alhayati alddunya kamain anzalnahu mina alssamai faikhtalata bihi nabatu alardi faasbaha hasheeman tathroohu alrriyahu wakana Allahu AAala kulli shayin muqtadiran

Translation:

We have devised different ways in the Qur'an to make the people understand its Message, but man is by nature very contentious.

Translit: Walaqad sarrafna fee hatha alqurani lilnnasi min kulli mathalin wakana alinsanu akthara shayin jadalan

Translation:

This was their condition and We know well whatever Zul-Qarnain possessed.

Translit: Kathalika waqad ahatna bima ladayhi khubran

Translation:

In answer, it was said, â€œSo shall it be. Your Lord says, `This is easy for Me, even as I created you before this, when you were nothing at all.â€

Translit: Qala kathalika qala rabbuka huwa AAalayya hayyinun waqad khalaqtuka min qablu walam taku shayan

Translation:

The angel replied, "So shall it be. Your Lord says, `This is an easy thing for Me to do, and We will do so in order to make that boy a Sign for the people and a blessing from Us, and this must happen."

Translit: Qala kathaliki qala rabbuki huwa AAalayya hayyinun walinajAAalahu ayatan lilnnasi warahmatan minna wakana amran maqdiyyan

hey will dwell for ever in the evergreen Gardens beneath which canals flow. Such is the reward of the one who adopts purity.

They answered, "We did not go against the Covenant with you of our own accord; it so happened that we felt burdened with the ornaments of the people and we merely threw them down. Then the Samiri also put down something like these

Translit: Qaloo ma akhlafna mawAAidaka bimalkina walakinna hummilna awzaran min zeenati alqawmi faqathafnaha fakathalika alqa alssamiriyyu

He replied, "I saw what the people did not see: so I took a handful of dust from the footprints of the Messenger, and sprinkled it (on the calf), for so did my soul prompt me."

Translit: Qala basurtu bima lam yabsuroo bihi faqabadtu qabdatan min athari alrrasooli fanabathtuha wakathalika sawwalat lee nafsee

O Muhammad, thus do We relate to you the history of the past events, and We have given you an "Admonition" from Our Own Self.

And, O Muhammad, thus have We sent this down as an Arabic Qur"an and have given therein warnings in various ways, perhaps these people may be saved from perverseness or that this may help arouse understanding in them.

Allah will say, "Yes; you forgot Our Revelations when they came to you, (as if you were blind), so you are being forgotten today"

This is how We recompense (in this world) those who transgress the bounds and do not believe in the Revelations of their Lord. And the torment of the Hereafter is more terrible and more lasting.

And if anyone of them were to say, "I am also a deity besides Allah", We would send him to Hell, for this is the recompense from Us for such workers of iniquity.

So We heard his prayer, and delivered him from the affliction: Thus do We deliver the believers.

And We have sent down this Qur'an with clear teachings such as these, but Allah alone guides whomsoever He wills.

And We have included the camels (dedicated for sacrifice) among the Symbols of Allah, for there is much good for you in them. Therefore make them stand and mention the name of Allah over them, and when (after the sacrifice,) their backs lie still on the ground, you may eat of their flesh and give of it to the contented ones and to those who ask for it. Thus have We subjected these animals to you so that you may be grateful.

Translit: Waalbudna jaAAalnaha lakum min shaAAairi Allahi lakum feeha khayrun faothkuroo isma Allahi AAalayha sawaffa faitha wajabat junoobuha fakuloo minha waatAAimoo alqaniAAa waalmuAAtarra kathalika sakhkharnaha lakum laAAallakum tashkuroona

Translation:

(Note it well that) neither their flesh reaches Allah nor their blood, but it is your piety that reaches Him.73 Thus has Allah subjected these animals to you so that you should glorify Him for the guidance He has given you.74 And, O Prophet, give good news to those who do righteous works.

Translit: Lan yanala Allaha luhoomuha wala dimaoha walakin yanaluhu alttaqwa minkum kathalika sakhkharaha lakum litukabbiroo Allaha AAala ma hadakum wabashshiri almuhsineena

Translation:

O mankind! A parable is related to you: so listen to it. The deities, whom you invoke instead of Allah, cannot create a fly even though they may all combine together for this purpose. Nay! if a fly snatches away something from them, they cannot get it back from it. How weak are the suppliants and how weak those whom they supplicate.

Translit: Ya ayyuha alnnasu duriba mathalun faistamiAAoo lahu inna allatheena tadAAoona min dooni Allahi lan yakhluqoo thubaban walawi ijtamaAAoo lahu wain yaslubuhumu alththubabu shayan la yastanqithoohu minhu daAAufa alttalibu waalmatloobu

We have sent down to you Revelations giving clear guidance and cited examples of the peoples who went before you to serve as warning and We have imparted admonitions for the God-fearing.

Translit: Walaqad anzalna ilaykum ayatin mubayyinatin wamathalan mina allatheena khalaw min qablikum wamawAAithatan lilmuttaqeena

Translation:

Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth: His light (in the universe) may be likened (to the light of) a lamp in a niche: the lamp is in a glass shade: the glass shade is like a glittering star and lamp is lit with the olive oil of a blessed tree which is neither eastern nor western: its oil is (so fine) as if it were going to shine forth by itself though no fire touched it (as though all the means of increasing) light upon light (were provided ); Allah guides to His light whomever He wills. He cites parables to make the Message clear to the people; He has perfect knowledge of everything.

Translit: Allahu nooru alssamawati waalardi mathalu noorihi kamishkatin feeha misbahun almisbahu fee zujajatin alzzujajatu kaannaha kawkabun durriyyun yooqadu min shajaratin mubarakatin zaytoonatin la sharqiyyatin wala gharbiyyatin yakadu zaytuha yudeeo walaw lam tamsashu narun noorun AAala noorin yahdee Allahu linoorihi man yashao wayadribu Allahu alamthala lilnnasi waAllahu bikulli shayin AAaleemun

Translation:

O Believers, your slaves and those of your children, who have not yet become sex conscious, must ask your permission before coming in to see you on three occasions: before the Fajr Prayer and at noon when you put off your clothes and after the `Isha' Prayer. These are your three times of privacy. There is no sin for you or for them if they come without permission at other times than these, for you have to visit one another over and over again. In this way Allah makes His Commandments clear to you for He is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

Translit: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo liyastathinkumu allatheena malakat aymanukum waallatheena lam yablughoo alhuluma minkum thalatha marratin min qabli salati alfajri waheena tadaAAoona thiyabakum mina alththaheerati wamin baAAdi salati alAAishai thalathu AAawratin lakum laysa AAalaykum wala AAalayhim junahun baAAdahunna tawwafoona AAalaykum baAAdukum AAala baAAdin kathalika yubayyinu Allahu lakumu alayati waAllahu AAaleemun hakeemun

Translation:

And when your children have grown sex conscious, they should receive your permission for this just as their elders get permission. In this way Allah makes His Revelations plain to you for He is All-Knowing, All Wise.

Translit: Waitha balagha alatfalu minkumu alhuluma falyastathinoo kama istathana allatheena min qablihim kathalika yubayyinu Allahu lakum ayatihi waAllahu AAaleemun hakeemun

Ask them "Is this (Fire) better or the everlasting Garden which has been promised to the God-fearing righteous people?" which will be the recompense of their good deeds and the final destination of their journey

O Muhammad, in this very way We have made the criminals the enemies of every Prophet, but your Lord suffices for you as your Guide and Helper.

Translation:

The disbelievers say, "Why has not the entire Qur'an been sent down to this man all at once?" Well, this has been done to impress it deeply on your mind, and (for the same object) We have sent it down piecemeal by degrees.

Translit: Waqala allatheena kafaroo lawla nuzzila AAalayhi alquranu jumlatan wahidatan kathalika linuthabbita bihi fuadaka warattalnahu tarteelan

Translation:

And (there is another wisdom in this : ) whenever they brought to you an odd thing (or a strange question), We sent its right answer to you in time and explained it all in the best manner,

Translit: Wala yatoonaka bimathalin illa jinaka bialhaqqi waahsana tafseeran

If We will, We can send down from the sky a Sign before which they will bend down their necks in submission.

This is how they were dealt with, while (on the other hand) We made the Children of Israel inherit all these things.

They answered, "These are idols which we worship and we serve them devotedly."

They replied, "No, but we have found our elders doing the same."

Likewise, We have caused this (Qur'an) to pass through the hearts of the criminals.

The queen said, "When the kings enter a land, they ruin it and debase its honorable people; they do just the same.

Translation:

When Moses had reached his full maturity and become full grown, We gave him judgment and knowledge; thus do We reward the righteous.

Translit: Walamma balagha ashuddahu waistawa ataynahu hukman waAAilman wakathalika najzee almuhsineena

Translation:

The likeness of those who have taken other patrons than Allah, is the likeness of a spider, which makes itself a dwelling; and the weakest of all dwellings is the dwelling of a spider. Would that these people had knowledge!73

Translit: Mathalu allatheena ittakhathoo min dooni Allahi awliyaa kamathali alAAankabooti ittakhathat baytan wainna awhana albuyooti labaytu alAAankabooti law kanoo yaAAlamoona

(O Prophet,) We have likewise sent down the Book to you; therefore, those to whom We gave the Book before this, believe in it, and so do many of these people, and none but the disbelievers deny Our Revelations.

Translation:

He brings out the living from the dead and the dead from the living, and gives life to the earth after its death. Likewise, you too, shall be taken out (of the state of death).

Translit: Yukhriju alhayya mina almayyiti wayukhriju almayyita mina alhayyi wayuhyee alarda baAAda mawtiha wakathalika tukhrajoona

He it is Who originates the creation; then He alone will repeat it, and this is easier for Him. His are the most exalted attributes in the heavens and the earth, and He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

Translation:

He draws out a comparison for you from your own selves: Are there among the slaves that you possess any such slaves also who may be sharing with you equally the wealth that We have given you, and you fear them as you fear one another among yourselves? Thus do We present the Revelations clearly for those who use their common sense.

Translit: Daraba lakum mathalan min anfusikum hal lakum mi mma malakat aymanukum min shurakaa fee ma razaqnakum faantum feehi sawaon takhafoonahum kakheefatikum anfusakum kathalika nufassilu alayati liqawmin yaAAqiloona

Translation:

And if We send a wind due to which they see their crops turn yellow, they do become even more firm in their disbelief.

Translit: Walain arsalna reehan faraawhu musfarran lathalloo min baAAdihi yakfuroona

Translation:

And when the Hour is established, the criminals will swear that they had not stayed for more than an hour; thus they used to be deceived in their worldly life.

Translit: Wayawma taqoomu alssaAAatu yuqsimu almujrimoona ma labithoo ghayra saAAatin kathalika kanoo yufakoona

Translation:

We have set forth in this Qur'an every sort of argument to make the people understand, but whatever Sign you may bring, the disbelievers will certainly say, " You are following falsehood."

Translit: Walaqad darabna lilnnasi fee hatha alqurani min kulli mathalin walain jitahum biayatin layaqoolanna allatheena kafaroo in antum illa mubtiloona

Thus Allah seals the hearts of those who lack knowledge.

Translit: Kathalika yatbaAAu Allahu AAala quloobi allatheena la yaAAlamoona

Translation:

But they said, "Our Lord, make our journeys longer." They wronged their own selves. Consequently, We made them mere legends and scattered them utterly. Surely there are Signs in this for every patient and grateful person.

Translit: Faqaloo rabbana baAAid bayna asfarina wathalamoo anfusahum fajaAAalnahum ahadeetha wamazzaqnahum kulla mumazzaqin inna fee thalika laayatin likulli sabbarin shakoorin

Translation:

Allah it is Who sends the winds; then they raise the cloud, then We drive it towards a waste land and revive it thereby after its death. Likewise shall be the Resurrection of the dead men.

Translit: WaAllahu allathee arsala alrriyaha fatutheeru sahaban fasuqnahu ila baladin mayyitin faahyayna bihi alarda baAAda mawtiha kathalika alnnushooru

Translation:

And likewise, men, beasts and cattle also have different colors. The fact is that only those of His servants, who possess knowledge, fear Allah. Surely, Allah is All-Mighty, All-Forgiving.

And for those who have disbelieved there is the Fire of Hell: neither will, it be decreed that they should die, nor will the torment of Hell be lightened for them in any way. Thus do We requite every disbeliever.

Tell them, for instance, the story of the people of the habitation when the Messengers came to it.

We have so subjected these to them that they ride on some and eat the flesh of others,

Now he strikes out likenesses for Us and forgets his own creation. He says, "Who will give life to these bones when they are rotten?"

And we blessed him as well as Isaac. Now among their offspring someone is righteous and someone clearly a sinner against his own self.

We have cited for the people in this Qur'an every kind of parable, so that they may take heed.

Allah cites a parable: There is a man who is shared by many harsh masters, each pulling him to himself, and there is the other man who entirely belongs to one master. Can the two be alike in comparison? Praise be to Allah! But most of the people have no knowledge.

Translit: Daraba Allahu mathalan rajulan feehi shurakao mutashakisoona warajulan salaman lirajulin hal yastawiyani mathalan alhamdu lillahi bal aktharuhum la yaAAlamoona

Likewise has this judgment of your Lord also proved true against those people who have denied that they would go to Hell.

Translit: Wakathalika haqqat kalimatu rabbika AAala allatheena kafaroo annahum ashabu alnnari

And deliver them from evils, for whomever You delivered from evils on the Day of Resurrection, to him You showed great mercy. This is indeed the supreme success."

Before this Joseph had brought to you clear Signs, but you continued to be in doubt concerning his teachings. Then, when he died, you said, "Allah will never send another Messenger after him." Likewise, Allah lets go astray the transgressors

Translit: Walaqad jaakum yoosufu min qablu bialbayyinati fama ziltum fee shakkin mimma jaakum bihi hatta itha halaka qultum lan yabAAatha Allahu min baAAdihi rasoolan kathalika yudillu Allahu man huwa musrifun murtabun

and doubters who dispute concerning the Revelations of Allah even without any authority having come to them Such an attitude is abhorred by Allah and the believers. Thus does Allah set a seal on the heart of every arrogant, self-exalting person.

Translit: Allatheena yujadiloona fee ayati Allahi bighayri sultanin atahum kabura maqtan AAinda Allahi waAAinda allatheena amanoo kathalika yatbaAAu Allahu AAala kulli qalbi mutakabbirin jabbarin

Translation:

the paths of the heavens, and peep at the God of Moses, for I drink that Moses is a liar." Thus the misdeeds of Pharaoh were trade seem fair to him and he was barred from the Right Way: all his scheming only led to (his own) ruin.

Translit: Asbaba alssamawati faattaliAAa ila ilahi moosa wainnee laathunnuhu kathiban wakathalika zuyyina lifirAAawna sooo AAamalihi wasudda AAani alssabeeli wama kaydu firAAawna illa fee tababin

Likewise were all those people deluded, who denied the Revelations of Allah.

Translit: Kathalika yufaku allatheena kanoo biayati Allahi yajhadoona

They will answer, "They have been lost to us; nay, we did not call upon anything before this." Thus will Allah establish the deviation of the disbelievers.

Translit: Min dooni Allahi qaloo dalloo AAanna bal lam nakun nadAAoo min qablu shayan kathalika yudillu Allahu alkafireena

Likewise has Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise, been inspiring you and those (Messengers) before you.

Yes, thus have We revealed to you, O Prophet, this Arabic Qur'an so that you may warn those who dwell in the center of habitations (i.e. Makkah) and around it, and warn them of the Day of Gathering that which is sure to come. One group shall go to Paradise and the other to Hell.

Translit: Wakathalika awhayna ilayka quranan AAarabiyyan litunthira omma alqura waman hawlaha watunthira yawma aljamAAi la rayba feehi fareequn fee aljannati wafareequn fee alssaAAeeri

Even so We have, (O Muhammad), revealed a Spirit to you by Our Command. You did not know at all what was the Book and what Was the Faith, but We made that Spirit a light by which We show the way to any of Our servants We will. You are indeed guiding to the Right Way,

So, We destroyed them though they were much stronger than these in might; there have gone before the examples of the ancient peoples.

Who sent down water from heaven in due measure and revived thereby the dead earth-even so shall you be brought out from the earth.

Translit: Waallathee nazzala mina alssamai maan biqadarin faansharna bihi baldatan maytan kathalika tukhrajoona

whereas when the birth of the offspring whom they ascribe to the Merciful God, is announced to any of them, his face grows black and he is filled with grief.

Translation:

Even so, whenever before you We sent a Warner to a habitation, its people of means said, "We have found our forefathers on a way and we are only following in their footsteps."

and made them a precedent and an object lesson for the later generations.

And when the son of Mary was cited as an example, your people raised a clamor at it,

The son of Mary was no more than a servant whom We favored and made an example of Our power for the children of Israel.

This was their end, and We made others to inherit those things.

Such will be their station! And We shall wed to them fair-complexioned, gazelle-eyed women.

Translation:

It will destroy everything by the Command of its Lord. Consequently, there remained nothing to be seen except their (empty) dwelling places. Thus do We recompense the culprits.

Translit: Tudammiru kulla shayin biamri rabbiha faasbahoo la yura illa masakinuhum kathalika najzee alqawma almujrimeena

Translation:

Then, why did not those beings help them whom they had made their gods instead of Allah, and regarded them as a means of attaining nearness to Him? Nay, they were lost from them: and this was the end of their lies and their false beliefs that they had invented.

Translit: Falawla nasarahumu allatheena ittakhathoo min dooni Allahi qurbanan alihatan bal dalloo AAanhum wathalika ifkuhum wama kanoo yaftaroona

Translation:

This is because the disbelievers followed falsehood and the believers followed the Truth which has come from their Lord. Thus does Allah make the people aware of their true state.

Translit: Thalika bianna allatheena kafaroo ittabaAAoo albatila waanna allatheena amanoo ittabaAAoo alhaqqa min rabbihim kathalika yadribu Allahu lilnnasi amthalahum

Translation:

The Paradise that has been promised to the righteous is such that canals will be flowing in it of pure water, and canals will be flowing in it of milk of unchanged flavor, and canals will be flowing in it of wine which will be delightful to the drinkers, and canals will be flowing in it of honey, clear and pure. In it there will be fruits of every kind for them and forgiveness from their Lord. (Can the person who will be admitted to this Paradise) be like those who will dwell in Hell for ever and who will be given to drink boiling water that will cut their bowels into pieces?

Translit: Mathalu aljannati allatee wuAAida almuttaqoona feeha anharun min main ghayri asinin waanharun min labanin lam yataghayyar taAAmuhu waanharun min khamrin laththatin lilshsharibeena waanharun min AAasalin musaffan walahum feeha min kulli alththamarati wamaghfiratun min rabbihim kaman huwa khalidun fee alnnari wasuqoo maan hameeman faqattaAAa amAAaahum

Translation:

When you set out to take the spoils, those who were left behind, will surely say to you, "Allow us too to go with you." They wish to change Allah"s decree. Tell them plainly, "You shall not come with us. Allah has already said this before." They will say, "Nay, but you are jealous of us." (Whereas there is no question of jealousy), but they little understand the truth.

Translit: Sayaqoolu almukhallafoona itha intalaqtum ila maghanima litakhuthooha tharoona nattabiAAkum yureedoona an yubaddiloo kalama Allahi qul lan tattabiAAoona kathalikum qala Allahu min qablu fasayaqooloona bal tahsudoonana bal kanoo la yafqahoona illa qaleelan

Translation:

Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are hard on the disbelievers and merciful among themselves. When you see them you will find them bowing down and falling prostrate and craving for Allah"s bounty and His good-will. They have the marks of prostrations on their faces by which they are distinguished from others. This is their description in the Torah, and in the Gospel they have been likened to a crop which put out its shoot, then strengthened it, then swelled and then stood on its own stem, filling the sowers with delight and the disbelievers with jealousy of them. Allah has promised those of them, who have believed and done good works, forgiveness and a great reward.

Translit: Muhammadun rasoolu Allahi waallatheena maAAahu ashiddao AAala alkuffari ruhamao baynahum tarahum rukkaAAan sujjadan yabtaghoona fadlan mina Allahi waridwanan seemahum fee wujoohihim min athari alssujoodi thalika mathaluhum fee alttawrati wamathaluhum fee alinjeeli kazarAAin akhraja shatahu faazarahu faistaghlatha faistawa AAala sooqihi yuAAjibu alzzurraAAa liyagheetha bihimu alkuffara waAAada Allahu allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati minhum maghfiratan waajran AAatheeman

This is the arrangement to provide food for the servants. With this water We revive a dead land. Such also will be the resurrection (of the dead from the earth)."

This has always been so. Whenever a Messenger came to the peoples before them, they said, "He is a sorcerer or a madman."

If We so pleased We could turn these crops into chaff, and you would then be left lamenting, "

Translation:

Know it well that the life of this world is nothing but a sport and pastime, and a show and boasting among yourselves and a rivalry in wealth and children. Its example is of vegetation after a shower of rain, which delighted the tillers, then the same ripens and you see it turn yellow, then it becomes straw. Contrary to this, in the life to come there is severe torment and forgiveness from Allah and His good pleasure. The life of this world is nothing but illusion.

Translit: IAAlamoo annama alhayatu alddunya laAAibun walahwun wazeenatun watafakhurun baynakum watakathurun fee alamwali waalawladi kamathali ghaythin aAAjaba alkuffara nabatuhu thumma yaheeju fatarahu musfarran thumma yakoonu hutaman wafee alakhirati AAathabun shadeedun wamaghfiratun mina Allahi waridwanun wama alhayatu alddunya illa mataAAu alghuroori

Surely the most abject of the creatures are those who resist Allah and His Messenger.

Translit: Inna allatheena yuhaddoona Allaha warasoolahu olaika fee alathalleena

They are even like those who have tasted, a short while before them, the evil consequences of their deeds, and there awaits them a painful torment.

Translit: Kamathali allatheena min qablihim qareeban thaqoo wabala amrihim walahum AAathabun aleemun

They are like Satan who orders man to disbelieve, and when man has disbelieved, he says: "I have nothing to do with you; I fear Allah, Lord of the worlds.â€

The end of both will be that they shall go to Hell for ever, and that is the recompense of the wrongdoers.

Translation:

The example of those who were entrusted with the burden of the Torah, and yet they failed to bear its burden, is of a donkey laden with books. Even worse is the example of those who have treated Allah's Revelations as false. Allah does not guide such wrongdoers.

Translit: Mathalu allatheena hummiloo alttawrata thumma lam yahmilooha kamathali alhimari yahmilu asfaran bisa mathalu alqawmi allatheena kaththaboo biayati Allahi waAllahu la yahdee alqawma alththalimeena

Translation:

They say, "When we return to Madinah, the honorable ones shall drive out from it the mean ones" although honor belongs to Allah and His Messenger and the believers, but the hypocrites do not know.

Translit: Yaqooloona lain rajaAAna ila almadeenati layukhrijanna alaAAazzu minha alathalla walillahi alAAizzatu walirasoolihi walilmumineena walakinna almunafiqeena la yaAAlamoona

The disbelievers assert that they shall never be raised up from death. Say to them, "Nay, by my Lord! You shall certainly be raised up. Then certainly you shall be told what you have done (in the world), and this is an easy thing for Allah to do."

Translit: ZaAAama allatheena kafaroo an lan yubAAathoo qul bala warabbee latubAAathunna thumma latunabbaonna bima AAamiltum wathalika AAala Allahi yaseerun

Allah cites for the disbelievers the example of the wives of Noah and Lot. They were married to two of Our righteous servants, but they betrayed their husbands, and they could not avail them anything against Allah. To both it was said, "Enter the Fire along with those who enter,"

Translit: Daraba Allahu mathalan lillatheena kafaroo imraata noohin waimraata lootin kanata tahta AAabdayni min AAibadina salihayni fakhanatahuma falam yughniya AAanhuma mina Allahi shayan waqeela odkhula alnnara maAAa alddakhileena

And for the believers, Allah cites the example of the wife of Pharaoh, when she prayed, "My Lord, build for me, in Your Presence, a house in Paradise, and save me from Pharaoh and his work and deliver me from the wicked."

Translit: Wadaraba Allahu mathalan lillatheena amanoo imraata firAAawna ith qalat rabbi ibni lee AAindaka baytan fee aljannati wanajjinee min firAAawna waAAamalihi wanajjinee mina alqawmi alththalimeena

Such is the torment, and the torment of the Hereafter is far greater. Would that they knew this!

Translation:

We have appointed only angels as the keepers of Hell, and have made their number a trial for the disbelievers, so that the people of the Book are convinced and the believers are increased in their faith, and the people of the Book and the believers may have no doubts, and the sick of the heart and the disbelievers may say, "What could Allah mean by this strange parable?" In this way Allah leads astray whom He wills and gives guidance to whom He wills, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself. And Hell has been mentioned so that the people may take heed.

Translit: Wama jaAAalna ashaba alnnari illa malaikatan wama jaAAalna AAiddatahum illa fitnatan lillatheena kafaroo liyastayqina allatheena ootoo alkitaba wayazdada allatheena amanoo eemanan wala yartaba allatheena ootoo alkitaba waalmuminoona waliyaqoola allatheena fee quloobihim maradun waalkafiroona matha arada Allahu bihatha mathalan kathalika yudillu Allahu man yashao wayahdee man yashao wama yaAAlamu junooda rabbika illa huwa wama hiya illa thikra lilbashari
