O Mankind, submit to your Lord Who created you and those who were before you; in this way only you may expect to save yourselves.

Translation:

At whatever place you may be, you must turn your face towards the Masjid Haram, and wherever you may be, you must turn your face towards the same at prayer so that people might not find an argument against you. As for the unjust people, they will never stop talking; so do not fear them but fear Me -- (Do this) so that I may complete My favour upon you and you may find the way to real success,

There is security of life for you in the law of retribution. It is expected that you will refrain from breaking this law.

O Believers, the Fast has been made obligatory on you just as it was prescribed for the followers of the Prophets before you. It is expected that this will produce piety in you.

Translation:

Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was sent down : this Book is a perfect guidance for mankind and consists of clear teachings which show the right way and are a criterion of Truth and falsehood. Therefore from now on whoever witnesses it, it is obligatory on hire to fast the whole month, but if one be ill or on a journey, he should make up for the same number by fasting on other days. Allah desires to show leniency to you and does not desire to show any hardship. "therefore this method is being shown to you so that you may complete the number of Fast days and glorify Allah for the Guidance He has shown to you and be grateful to Him.

Translit: Shahru ramadana allathee onzila feehi alquranu hudan lilnnasi wabayyinatin mina alhuda waalfurqani faman shahida minkumu alshshahra falyasumhu waman kana mareedan aw AAala safarin faAAiddatun min ayyamin okhara yureedu Allahu bikumu alyusra wala yureedu bikumu alAAusra walitukmiloo alAAiddata walitukabbiroo Allaha AAala ma hadakum walaAAallakum tashkuroona

Translation:

They ask you about the phases of the moon. Say, "These are signs for the people to reckon dates and fix the periods for hajj."198 Also tell them, "It is no virtue to enter your houses from their backs during the Hajj days); real virtue is that one should refrain from incurring the displeasure of Allah; so enter your houses by their proper doors. and fear Allah so that you may gain (true) success.

Translit: Yasaloonaka AAani alahillati qul hiya mawaqeetu lilnnasi waalhajji walaysa albirru bian tatoo albuyoota min thuhooriha walakinna albirra mani ittaqa watoo albuyoota min abwabiha waittaqoo Allaha laAAallakum tuflihoona

They ask you about drinking and gambling. Say, "There is great harm in both, though there is some benefit also for the people. But the harm of the sin thereof is far greater than their benefit."

Thus Allah makes clear His commandments for you: it is expected that you will use your common sense.

Translation:

Would anyone of you wish that he should have a green garden of palm trees and vines, watered by canals and laden with all sorts of fruit and then it should be consumed by a fiery whirlwind at the very time when he himself has grown very old and his small children are too feeble to earn anything?307 Thus Allah makes His revelations clear and plain to you that you may ponder over them.

Translit: Ayawaddu ahadukum an takoona lahu jannatun min nakheelin waaAAnabin tajree min tahtiha alanharu lahu feeha min kulli alththamarati waasabahu alkibaru walahu thurriyyatun duAAafao faasabaha iAAsarun feehi narun faihtaraqat kathalika yubayyinu Allahu lakumu alayati laAAallakum tatafakkaroona

Translation:

Hold fast together to Allahs cord and Iet nothing divide you. Remember the favour of Allah upon you, when you were enemies to one another, then He united your hearts, and by His grace, you became like brothers, and you were on the brink of the abyss of Fire and He rescued you from it. Thus does Allah make His signs clear to you so that you may find the right path to true success by these.

Translit: WaiAAtasimoo bihabli Allahi jameeAAan wala tafarraqoo waothkuroo niAAmata Allahi AAalaykum ith kuntum aAAdaan faallafa bayna quloobikum faasbahtum biniAAmatihi ikhwanan wakuntum AAala shafa hufratin mina alnnari faanqathakum minha kathalika yubayyinu Allahu lakum ayatihi laAAallakum tahtadoona

Indeed Allah had already succoured you in the battle of Badr when you were in a much weaker position, therefore you should refrain from showing ingratitude towards Allah: it is expected that you will be grateful now.

O Believers, when you rise to offer the Salat, you must wash your faces and hands and arms up to the elbows and wipe your heads with wet hands and wash your feet up to the ankles; and if you have become unclean, cleanse yourselves with a full bath; if, however, you are sick or are on a journey, or if any of you has relieved himself or if you have "touched" women and you can find no water, then cleanse yourselves with pure dust: strike your palms on it and wipe your hands and faces with it. Allah does not will to make life hard for you, but He wills to purify you and complete His blessing upon you so that you may show gratitude.

Translit: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo itha qumtum ila alssalati faighsiloo wujoohakum waaydiyakum ila almarafiqi waimsahoo biruoosikum waarjulakum ila alkaAAbayni wain kuntum junuban faittahharoo wain kuntum marda aw AAala safarin aw jaa ahadun minkum mina alghaiti aw lamastumu alnnisaa falam tajidoo maan fatayammamoo saAAeedan tayyiban faimsahoo biwujoohikum waaydeekum minhu ma yureedu Allahu liyajAAala AAalaykum min harajin walakin yureedu liyutahhirakum waliyutimma niAAmatahu AAalaykum laAAallakum tash

Translation:

O Believers, fear Allah and seek the means of winning His pleasure and exert your utmost in His way so that you may attain true success.

Translit: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo ittaqoo Allaha waibtaghoo ilayhi alwaseelata wajahidoo fee sabeelihi laAAallakum tuflihoona

Translation:

Allah does not take you to task for the inadvertent oaths you swear, but He will surely call you to account for the intentional and deliberate oaths you make. The expiation (of breaking such an oath) is to feed ten indigent persons with the normal food you serve in your own family, or to give them clothes, or to free one slave, and the one who cannot afford any of these let him fast three days. This is the expiation of breaking the solemn oaths you have taken; be mindful of your oaths. Thus Allah makes His Commandments plain to you so that you may show gratitude.

Translit: La yuakhithukumu Allahu biallaghwi fee aymanikum walakin yuakhithukum bima AAaqqadtumu alaymana fakaffaratuhu itAAamu AAasharati masakeena min awsati ma tutAAimoona ahleekum aw kiswatuhum aw tahreeru raqabatin faman lam yajid fasiyamu thalathati ayyamin thalika kaffaratu aymanikum itha halaftum waihfathoo aymanakum kathalika yubayyinu Allahu lakum ayatihi laAAallakum tashkuroona

Translation:

O Believers, wine, gambling, (ungodly) shrines and divining devices are all abominable works of Satan: therefore refrain from these so that you may attain to true success.

Translit: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo innama alkhamru waalmaysiru waalansabu waalazlamu rijsun min AAamali alshshaytani faijtaniboohu laAAallakum tuflihoona

Translation:

Tell them, O Messenger, that the pure and the impure cannot be alike anyhow, although the abundance of the impure may allure you much. So, O people of understanding, refrain from the disobedience of Allah : it is expected that you will attain to true success.

Translit: Qul la yastawee alkhabeethu waalttayyibu walaw aAAjabaka kathratu alkhabeethi faittaqoo Allaha ya olee alalbabi laAAallakum tuflihoona

Translation:

O Muhammad, say to them, "Come, I will recite what limits your Lord has set for you."127 (He has enjoined:) (1) That you should not set up anything as a partner with Him,128 (2) and you should treat your parents kindly,129 (3) and you should not kill your children for fear of poverty, for We provide sustenance for you and will provide sustenance for them also, (4) and you should not go near indecent things130 whether they be open or hidden, (5) and you should not kill any living being whom Allah has forbidden to kill except by right.131 These are the things which He has enjoined on you: it may be that you use your common sense.

Translit: Qul taAAalaw atlu ma harrama rabbukum AAalaykum alla tushrikoo bihi shayan wabialwalidayni ihsanan wala taqtuloo awladakum min imlaqin nahnu narzuqukum waiyyahum wala taqraboo alfawahisha ma thahara minha wama batana wala taqtuloo alnnafsa allatee harrama Allahu illa bialhaqqi thalikum wassakum bihi laAAallakum taAAqiloona

Translation:

And He has enjoined:(6) that you should not go near the property of an orphan except in the best way, until he reaches his maturity.(7) and you should use a full measure and a just balance. We charge one only with that much responsibility that one can bear, (8) and whatever you say should be just, even if it is concerning your own relatives,(9) and you should fulfill your covenant with Allah. Allah has enjoined these things on you so that you may follow the admonition.

Translit: Wala taqraboo mala alyateemi illa biallatee hiya ahsanu hatta yablugha ashuddahu waawfoo alkayla waalmeezana bialqisti la nukallifu nafsan illa wusAAaha waitha qultum faiAAdiloo walaw kana tha qurba wabiAAahdi Allahi awfoo thalikum wassakum bihi laAAallakum tathakkaroona

Translation:

(10) And Allah also enjoins: "This way alone is My Right Way; therefore you should follow this Way and should not follow other ways lest they should lead you astray from His Way. This is what Allah has enjoined on you so that you may avoid crooked ways.

Translit: Waanna hatha siratee mustaqeeman faittabiAAoohu wala tattabiAAoo alssubula fatafarraqa bikum AAan sabeelihi thalikum wassakum bihi laAAallakum tattaqoona

And likewise have We sent down this Book, which is a perfect blessing; so follow this and adopt the God fearing attitude so that mercy may be shown to you.

Translit: Wahatha kitabun anzalnahu mubarakun faittabiAAoohu waittaqoo laAAallakum turhamoona

Translation:

And it is Allah, Who sends winds as harbingers of the good tidings of His mercy; when they gather up heavy clouds He drives them on to some dead land, and makes the rain fall upon it and brings forth many kinds of fruit (from the same dead land). Look! This is how We bring forth the dead from the state of death; it may be that you learn a lesson from this observation.

Translit: Wahuwa allathee yursilu alrriyaha bushran bayna yaday rahmatihi hatta itha aqallat sahaban thiqalan suqnahu libaladin mayyitin faanzalna bihi almaa faakhrajna bihi min kulli alththamarati kathalika nukhriju almawta laAAallakum tathakkaroona

Do you think it strange that admonition from your Lord should come to you through a man from among your own people so that he may warn you and you may guard against error and be graced with mercy?"

Do you think it strange that admonition from your Lord should come to you through a man among your own people so that he may warn you? Do not forget that after Noahs people your Lord made you his successors and made you very robust. So remember the wonderful manifestations of Allahs power: it is expected that you will attain success."

Translit: AwaAAajibtum an jaakum thikrun min rabbikum AAala rajulin minkum liyunthirakum waothkuroo ith jaAAalakum khulafaa min baAAdi qawmi noohin wazadakum fee alkhalqi bastatan faothkuroo alaa Allahi laAAallakum tuflihoona

Translation:

O Muhammad, say, "O mankind, I am a Messenger to all of you from Allah to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and tire earth. There is no deity but He. He bestows life and ordains death. So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the Ummi Prophet, who believes in Allah and His Commandments. Follow him: it is expected that you will be guided aright."

Translit: Qul ya ayyuha alnnasu innee rasoolu Allahi ilaykum jameeAAan allathee lahu mulku alssamawati waalardi la ilaha illa huwa yuhyee wayumeetu faaminoo biAllahi warasoolihi alnnabiyyi alommiyyi allathee yuminu biAllahi wakalimatihi waittabiAAoohu laAAallakum tahtadoona

Do they also remember the time when We shook the Mountain and spread over them as though it were an umbrella, and they thought that it was going to fall upon them; (then We said to them), "Hold fast the Book We are giving you, and keep in mind what it contains: it is expected that you will refrain from wrong ways."

It is Allah Who raised up the heavens without such pillars as you could see: then He sat Himself upon the Throne of His Kingdom: He subjected the sun and the moon to a law. Everything in the universe is running its course to its fixed term. And Allah alone is directing the whole affair. He makes His signs plain: perhaps you may be convinced of meeting your Lord.

Translit: Allahu allathee rafaAAa alssamawati bighayri AAamadin tarawnaha thumma istawa AAala alAAarshi wasakhkhara alshshamsa waalqamara kullun yajree liajalin musamman yudabbiru alamra yufassilu alayati laAAallakum biliqai rabbikum tooqinoona

It is He Who has subjected the sea to your service so that you may get fresh flesh from it to eat and bring out of it articles of ornament, which you wear, and you see that the ship sails her course through it. He has done all this so that you may seek of His bounty11 and show gratitude to Him.

Translit: Wahuwa allathee sakhkhara albahra litakuloo minhu lahman tariyyan watastakhrijoo minhu hilyatan talbasoonaha watara alfulka mawakhira feehi walitabtaghoo min fadlihi walaAAallakum tashkuroona

He has driven mountains firmly into the earth lest it should turn away from its usual course along with you: He has caused rivers to flow and made natural ways so that you may be directed aright.

Allah brought you out of your mothers wombs in this state that you knew nothing: He gave you ears and eyes and thinking minds so that you may be grateful.

Allah enjoins justice, generosity and kind treatment with kindred, and forbids indecency, wickedness and oppression. He admonishes you so that you may learn a lesson.

Translit: Inna Allaha yamuru bialAAadli waalihsani waeetai thee alqurba wayanha AAani alfahshai waalmunkari waalbaghyi yaAAithukum laAAallakum tathakkaroona

(Then it was said to them:) "Do not run away: go back to the same life of luxury and the houses where you were making merry: perhaps you may be asked about it."

And We have included the camels (dedicated for sacrifice) among the Symbols of Allah, for there is much good for you in them. Therefore make them stand and mention the name of Allah over them, and when (after the sacrifice,) their backs lie still on the ground, you may eat of their flesh and give of it to the contented ones and to those who ask for it. Thus have We subjected these animals to you so that you may be grateful.

O people, who have believed, bow down and prostrate yourselves before Allah, worship your Lord and do righteous deeds: it may be that you attain true success.

Translit: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo irkaAAoo waosjudoo waoAAbudoo rabbakum waifAAaloo alkhayra laAAallakum tuflihoona

(Tell them the story of the time) when Moses said to the people of his house, "I have seen a fire: I may either bring some information from there or a burning brand so that you may warm yourselves.

Salih said, "O my people, why do you hasten for the evil in preference to the good? Why don't you ask forgiveness of Allah? Maybe that you are shown mercy."

And the two bodies of water are not alike. One is sweet and thirst-quenching, pleasant to drink, while the other is saltish and pungent; yet from both you get fresh flesh and bring out decorations to wear, and in the same waters you see the ships which plough through it so that you may seek Allah's bounty and be grateful to Him.

He it is Who created you from dust, then from a sperm, then from a clot of blood, then He delivers you as an infant, then He makes you to grow up to attain to full strength,then makes you to grow further to reach old age, though some one of you are recalled earlier. This is done so that you may reach an appointed time and may understand the reality.

Translit: Huwa allathee khalaqakum min turabin thumma min nutfatin thumma min AAalaqatin thumma yukhrijukum tiflan thumma litablughoo ashuddakum thumma litakoonoo shuyookhan waminkum man yutawaffa min qablu walitablughoo ajalan musamman walaAAallakum taAAqiloona

The disbelievers say, "Do not listen to this Qur'an, and when it is recited, cause interruption in it, so that you might attain the upper hand."

Translit: Waqala allatheena kafaroo la tasmaAAoo lihatha alqurani wailghaw feehi laAAallakum taghliboona

We have made it an Arabic Qur'an so that you (O people) may understand it.

He it is Who made this earth a cradle for you7 and made in it paths for you so that you may be guided to your destinations.
