Translation:

They replied, "Have you come to us (with the demand) that we should worship Allah alone and discard those whom our forefathers have been worshiping? Well, bring on us the scourge with which you have been threatening us, if you are truthful."

Translit: Qaloo ajitana linaAAbuda Allaha wahdahu wanathara ma kana yaAAbudu abaona fatina bima taAAiduna in kunta mina alssadiqeena

Translation:

They have made their scholars and monks as their Lords beside Allah,31 and likewise the Messiah, the son of Mary, although they were enjoined not to worship any other than the One Deity, besides Whom there is none worthy of worship. He is absolutely pure and free from what they associate with Him.

Translit: Ittakhathoo ahbarahum waruhbanahum arbaban min dooni Allahi waalmaseeha ibna maryama wama omiroo illa liyaAAbudoo ilahan wahidan la ilaha illa huwa subhanahu AAamma yushrikoona

Translation:

These people worship besides Allah those which can neither harm nor benefit them, and say, "These are our intercessors with Allah." O Muhammad, say to them, "Do you presume to inform Allah of that thing which He knows not to be either in the heavens or in the earth ?" He is absolutely free from and exalted above what they associate with Him.

Translit: WayaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi ma la yadurruhum wala yanfaAAuhum wayaqooloona haolai shufaAAaona AAinda Allahi qul atunabbioona Allaha bima la yaAAlamu fee alssamawati wala fee alardi subhanahu wataAAala AAamma yushrikoona

Translation:

They replied "O Salih, till now you were such a person among us of whom we had great expectations. What! do you forbid us to worship gods whom our forefathers worshiped? Indeed we have a strong doubt about the way to which you are calling us and this has caused a feeling of distraction in us."

Translit: Qaloo ya salihu qad kunta feena marjuwwan qabla hatha atanhana an naAAbuda ma yaAAbudu abaona wainnana lafee shakkin mimma tadAAoona ilayhi mureebun

They replied, "O Shu`aib! Does your Salat teach you this96 that we should give up all those deities whom our forefathers worshiped or that we should have no right on our goads to dispense with them as we please?97 Indeed you are the only generous and righteous man (remaining in the land)!"

Translit: Qaloo ya shuAAaybu asalatuka tamuruka an natruka ma yaAAbudu abaona aw an nafAAala fee amwalina ma nashao innaka laanta alhaleemu alrrasheedu

Translation:

So, O Prophet have no doubt concerning the deities they worship for they blindly imitate and worship what their forefathers worshiped before them. And We will give them the full measure of their share without detracting anything from it.

Translit: Fala taku fee miryatin mimma yaAAbudu haolai ma yaAAbudoona illa kama yaAAbudu abaohum min qablu wainna lamuwaffoohum naseebahum ghayra manqoosin

Translation:

The Messengers said, "Do you have doubt about the existence of Allah. Who is the Creator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you that He may forgive you your sins and give you respite till your appointed term." They answered, "You are no more than human beings like ourselves. You intend to debar us from the worship of the deities whom our forefathers have been worshiping. Well, bring a clear Sign."

Translit: Qalat rusuluhum afee Allahi shakkun fatiri alssamawati waalardi yadAAookum liyaghfira lakum min thunoobikum wayuakhkhirakum ila ajalin musamman qaloo in antum illa basharun mithluna tureedoona an tasuddoona AAamma kana yaAAbudu abaona fatoona bisultanin mubeenin

and, instead of Allah, worship those who do not provide them with anything from the heavens or the earth, nor have any power to do so?

Translit: WayaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi ma la yamliku lahum rizqan mina alssamawati waalardi shayan wala yastateeAAoona

Translation:

Now that you have forsaken them and discarded the deities they worship besides Allah, let us go to such and such a cave for refuge. Your Lord will extend to you His mercy, and order your affairs for you for the best.â€

Translit: Waithi iAAtazaltumoohum wama yaAAbudoona illa Allaha fawoo ila alkahfi yanshur lakum rabbukum min rahmatihi wayuhayyi lakum min amrikum mirfaqan

Accordingly, when he left those people and their deities besides Allah, We granted to him descendants like Isaac and Jacob, and We made each of them a Prophet

Translit: Falamma iAAtazalahum wama yaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi wahabna lahu ishaqa wayaAAqooba wakullan jaAAalna nabiyyan

Translation:

And there is a type of man who serves Allah standing on the borders (of the Faith15 ); is if some good comes to him, he is satisfied (with his Faith), but if he encounters a trial, he turns his back (upon it). Thus he loses both this world and the Hereafter: this is the manifest loss.

Translit: Wamina alnnasi man yaAAbudu Allaha AAala harfin fain asabahu khayrun itmaanna bihi wain asabathu fitnatun inqalaba AAala wajhihi khasira alddunya waalakhirata thalika huwa alkhusranu almubeenu

Translation:

They worship, besides Allah, those for whom He has sent down no authority nor they themselves have any knowledge about them. Such transgressors have no helper.

Translit: WayaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi ma lam yunazzil bihi sultanan wama laysa lahum bihi AAilmun wama lilththalimeena min naseerin

Translation:

Allah has promised to those among you who believe and do righteous deeds, that He will make them successors in the land just as He made those who passed away before them, and that He will establish their religion, which He has approved for them, on strong foundations and will change their (present) state of fear into peace and security. Let them worship Me and associate none with Me; and the one who disbelieves after this," shall be of those who are perverse transgressors.

Translit: WaAAada Allahu allatheena amanoo minkum waAAamiloo alssalihati layastakhlifannahum fee alardi kama istakhlafa allatheena min qablihim walayumakkinanna lahum deenahumu allathee irtada lahum walayubaddilannahum min baAAdi khawfihim amnan yaAAbudoonanee la yushrikoona bee shayan waman kafara baAAda thalika faolaika humu alfasiqoona

Translation:

And on that Day (your Lord ) will gather all these people together as well as their deities, whom they worship besides Allah. Then He will ask them, "Did you mislead these servants of Mine, or did they themselves go astray?"

Translit: Wayawma yahshuruhum wama yaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi fayaqoolu aantum adlaltum AAibadee haolai am hum dalloo alssabeela

Yet they worship, instead of Allah, those who can neither benefit them nor harm them: more than this, the disbeliever has become a helper of every rebel against his Lord.

O, Muhammad, tell the people, "My Lord does not care at all if you do not invoke Him. Now that you have denied (His Revelations), you will soon be awarded such a punishment which you will never be able to avoid."

Translation:

Those concerning whom this Word will be true, will say, "Our Lord, these are indeed the people whom we had misled: we led them astray even as we ourselves were led astray. We plead our innocence before You: they did not worship us."

Translit: Qala allatheena haqqa AAalayhimu alqawlu rabbana haolai allatheena aghwayna aghwaynahum kama ghawayna tabarrana ilayka ma kanoo iyyana yaAAbudoona

And the Day when He will gather all mankind together, He will ask the angels, "Did they really worship you?"

Translit: Wayawma yahshuruhum jameeAAan thumma yaqoolu lilmalaikati ahaolai iyyakum kanoo yaAAbudoona

They will reply, "Glory be to Thee: our connection is with Thee, not with them. They, in fact, worshiped the jinns, not us. It was in them that most of them believed."

Translit: Qaloo subhanaka anta waliyyuna min doonihim bal kanoo yaAAbudoona aljinna aktharuhum bihim muminoona

When Our clear Revelations are recited to these people, they say, "This person only wants to turn you away from those deities whom your forefathers have been worshiping." And they say, "This (Qur'an) is only a forged falsehood." When the Truth came before these disbelievers, they said, "This is plain magic,"

Translit: Waitha tutla AAalayhim ayatuna bayyinatin qaloo ma hatha illa rajulun yureedu an yasuddakum AAamma kana yaAAbudu abaokum waqaloo ma hatha illa ifkun muftaran waqala allatheena kafaroo lilhaqqi lamma jaahum in hatha illa sihrun mubeenun

(It will be commanded): "Gather all the unjust people and their associates together, and those gods whom they used to worship

Translit: Ohshuroo allatheena thalamoo waazwajahum wama kanoo yaAAbudoona

Contrary to this, those who refrained from serving taghut and turned to Allah, for them there is good news. So (O Prophet,) give good news to those of My servants
